Default !*!*! Fan control temp gauge !*!*!

We are almost out the lighting project, just the custom hood scoop with Hella blackout lights but will have that finished soon.

Now I’m looking at a other upgrade as I’m reading a lot about that H2’s temperature is kinda running on the high side.
Replacing the fan control temperature gauge is an option.
Not sure if it is a gauge or switch you replace.
The temp my H2 currently is running at is 210 and I hear the fan coming on when I have it idling.
Is better to go to a 200 degree or even below that?
And what kind of part or parts do I need?

Thank you guys.
Ben.

What year is your h2? 03-07 have mechanical fans controlled mechanically by a thermostat in the clutch itself. 08-09 have electronic fans controlled by the pcm.

Either way. It is fine. The gauge on the dash lies to you anyway. I bet if you were to hook up a scanner, you'd find engine coolant temperature would actually be 190-195 degrees. This is the temperature the truck was designed to run at and I'd be concerned if it was lower. And the fan is supposed to run at idle. That's the whole point of having one. Once the needle on the guage hits about 230 is when you need to be concerned.

There's no reason to lower the temperature. at 190-230 you're at the perfect temperature to effectively bring heat away from the engine while keeping it hot enough for the internal tolerances to be correct as parts expand and contract with temperature.

Thank you sir.
I just leave it alone other than this weekend I’ll put the scanner on it to see where the temp is.
It’s a 2008.

On an 08 you have electric fans controlled by the PCM using a series/parallel relay setup. The PCM will command them on low or high depending on multiple factors. Engine temperature of course but also AC head pressure and vehicle speed. Vehicle speed is really a cutoff - above a set speed the fans are pointless so they will shut off above around 35mph. If you get a custom tuning setup (HP Tuners or EFILive) you can edit the fan settings within the PCM but that is pretty expensive to buy just to adjust the fans. That being said you can also do custom tuning for significantly improved performance, program the PCM to know that you have installer larger tires to correct the speedometer and shift pressures, etc as well with one of the above tuners.

Thank you so much.
Thats more info than I can process lol.
No kidding, that awesome info.
I don’t drive a lot in this H2, just maybe every other weekend or so.
Since Nov of last year I put maybe 500 mikes on it.
ill check this weekend my operating temp with a scanner and go from there.
Tuning sounds pretty good to me but I think the amount of miles I put on with good maintenance this H2 will be still standing perfect the day they put me 6’ down or push me in the pizza oven 🤷🏼‍♂️
