Default Noisy Geared Hub

Hey guys, I’m brand new to the Hummer world. I just picked up a 2002 wagon with 20,000 original miles. I have a few things I need to sort out so hopefully this forums will help steer me in the right direction. As the title states, I have one hub that is noisy, under load it howls pretty good. My question is, is it more common for the bearings for go or the gears? It’s quite when coasting. Thanks in advance.

Post pictures of the side view(front to back, both sides) of your wagon.

The part that concerns me is that it only makes noise under load. That said, this is a much different set up then a traditional wheel bearing that would make noise coasting as well. Are one set (upper or lower) more prone for failure? My thought is the lower set seem real easy to swap. If they were more prone, I would try them first. Thoughts?

have you checked the geared hubs for proper oil levels? maybe they are low causing the noise under load.
