got my hummer today - maintenance question
I received a beautiful 2006 alpha. Any obsessed people here with regards to maintenance
I just drove it to my garage so havnt driven it much yet but here are my observations and your advice much appreciated
1) drain filter light is on ( I have been reading to drain it but where exactly is the drain). Does the light go away right after i drain it - any drainage procedures
2) my first diesel and I noticed when I started it and put it in park the rpm’s rise (cold engine) and when I tap the gas it normalized - is this because it’s cold or filter light? Is it common.
Any maintenance of special attention to things not mentioned In maintenance schedule?
it’s a low mile example hummer

What is "low" mileage? Did you get service records with it? If not Mike Sabaresse at Tustin GMC in Tustin, CA. can pull them up for you. He is one of the premier H1 techs in the country. If real low mileage, meaning it hasn't been driven much over the years any rubber seals become suspect. Fuel light should go out after the filter is drained. You might want to check with Dave at hummerpartsguy.com and get the maintenance manual if you did not get one with the truck. The Alpha is amazing. I was lucky enough to own two of them.
Yea it’s has 9100 miles - plan on keeping it low mileage
I noticed some paint chips that where touched up where the seems meet (wagon style) I heard it’s common
Any signs that would indicate it’s been off road a lot?

What tank does the fuel gauge read?
Fill both tanks as those are separate, when you flick the switch from main to aux the meter should change its source as well, on mine the meter only works when on the main tank, and goes all the way down when I flick the switch to auxilary.

I got my first Alpha last Sept and was my first diesel too. Was a learning experience with the truck overall but good info on internet for just about everything and what’s missing, the forum members have been great.
Where about are you located? I’m in SoCal and at Cars and Coffee with the Alpha most Saturday mornings.
Also, on topic of fuel, something I learned (and seems to help; feels better) is adding some diesel fuel additive EVERY fuel up. It’ll help keep things clean and lubricated. I use Power Service Diesel Kleen (gray bottle) and add a bit to both the main and aux tanks on each fuel up.
