Default 2000 Hummer H1 stops while driving

I have 2000 Hummer H1 and sometimes it won't start and sometimes when I am driving it, it completely shuts down. In Sept 2019 I had a new PMD/PDM and fuel pump installed. It ran for a while, but recently it has been acting up. I don't drive it a lot, mainly in the winter and in heavy down pours. I have checked some youtubes that people posted that their their HUMVEE and/or Hummer H1 had issues starting. I'm a novice with diesel engines...

My late husband and I have owned this one for 20 years and he would take care of issues. However, it hasn't had the maintenance other than oil changes and inspections for the past 15 years. I am looking for some guidance as to what to do. Everyone tells me to sell...this is my baby and I am not looking to sell.

Suggestions? Also, I need a air filter housing clamp if anyone has a used one they want to sell. New ones run between $115 - $135.

Welcome.

Moved your tech question to the H1 section where all H1 questions go.

PMDs die. Could still be PMD. Also fuel has an expiration date. If your fuel has been in the tank for long periods of time that could be your issue. Lift pump going out? Neutral safety switch? Where are you located? Forum members might know a good H1 mechanic in your area.

Thank you for your suggestions. I have been waffling on buying a new PMD, but after your comment, I think I will go ahead and start there. It surprises me that it's only been four year...oh well.

I live in SE Pennsylvania (Montgomery county).

Did you do the relo kit or put it back in the valley of the motor? The heat and vibration kill them.

Default Hummer Shut off SOLVED

When I first bought my 1994 half door I was surprised to find that the truck would not go above 62 mph. A month later, the vehicle started shutting off when I was driving down the road. I would pull over, turn the key, and the hummer would start up again. Strange??? Must be a fuel delivery issue. I started with the fuel filter. Didnt fix it. I could hear the thudding of the fuel pump running so I knew that was pumping. Not knowing where the the fuel tank is located I traced the fuel line. This is where I found the issue.

Located on the passenger side, roughly in the middle of the hummer is the stainless steel fuel line. There's a small section the creates an "S" turn with rubber hosing. Over time the rubber hose has dried out and gotten old. This will restrict the fuel and even crimp the fuel line starving the motor. I changed that hose and haven't had a problem since. The hummer runs 85 mph now too!

Sounds like this is becoming a common problem as these vehicles age.
