They are apparently releasing the design of it in May. My biggest question is what is the size? Are we talking H3 size? The H4 concept? Or will it be as large as the H2? Or even an H1? If it's smaller than the H2 it will be a no from me. Not that I could afford to spend 100k on a vehicle anyway.

 

So far, it’s a GMC “Hummer” truck, not an H1, H2, or even H3. The silhouette looks like a normal GMC truck with an updated Hummer grill, LED lights, and skid plate. It’s just another flavor of truck. Call it what they want, spec it up all they want, plug it in, charge the batteries, it’s not a “Hummer” until they make a big *** brick. I don’t care about another truck. Everybody makes those!

Here's something else I just learned. It takes 52 hours to charge a completely depleted Tesla on 110v. I'm assuming trucks will be even worse given inefficiencies of it being larger/greater capacity. If the range is 300 miles, that would get me from Austin to Taos, NM with a 2 1/2 day lay-over in Lubbock with an extension cord running out of the window there at the Hampton Inn - because I'm pretty sure they are not going to let me un-hook their 240v dryers there in the laundry mat so I can charge my Hummer. Electric cars as a grocery grabber, great! But a legitimate set of wheels you take your family trips on; not so sure. People just haven't fully thought through this I don't believe.

 

Back in the late 90’s to mid 2000’s, I use to run a 5000 watt stereo system in my 98 Mercury Mountaineer. I installed an auxiliary battery in my cargo area and used a $50 battery isolator to run the system and jump my vehicle if need be. It would make a crapload of sense to have a bank of batteries (2-4) with a multi-toggle switch to just flip to the next one as the primary starts to fade. Should have a volt meter to each battery in the bank letting you know at all times where each one is at. I had installed a 320 amp alternator and I remember my Mountaineer voltage was pinned at 14.4 volts when I was cranking that old system. This should be easy to do if GMC can’t figure it out.

 

There are a surprising number of the 240v charging stations across the country now which charge orders of magnitude faster than a regular 110v outlet can. 110v outlets for charging an EV is for a dire emergency and no other option.

Aside from the EV aspect there is really no telling what they will look like yet. ALL images online other than the grille shot from GM are made up renderings by various places of what they think it "might" look like. If it is just an electric Silverado with different badging, grille, wheels I'd be pretty disappointed. There is already a nicer more stylized Silverado, the GMC Sierra. We dont need a third one. In my opinion it needs to be VERY distinctive which would mean a lot more than just a different grille and badging. Hard telling for sure though. Look at what they did with the Impala and other brands have done when bringing old names back. Sometimes they do a great justice to an old name, sometimes they totally ruin it.

I'm also not on the EV bandwagon either. I've spoken a good bit with a number of EV owners though and from what I've been told as long as they plan their route and stops accordingly to make sure they have good charging they are even using them for road trips. I'm still not personally convinced for road trips myself though. I can see EV for around town daily drivers at this point but not for long hauls. Too much uncertainty but maybe I'm wrong. I've not looked into it much...

 

I hope the new Hummer does look great and perform as claimed. Either way, I won’t be getting one. My “new to me” 2006 H2 only rolled 33K last Friday. So I’m good to go for awhile!

I agree with you. Right now, it doesn’t seem convenient to drive EVs for long distances without a lot of planning.

 

I'm with you here. It needs to look like a f'n hummer and not be soft. I basically want an h2, updated interior and some slight styling adjustments. Or an electric H1 LOL

 

No way it will be a driving box. Electrics HAVE to be aerodynamic to improve range. Imagine making an H2 all electric with its weight and flat angles, the range would be comical. I am sure it will be a smaller midsized truck or god forbid a crossover looking grotesque type thing with a Hummer grill.

 

My guess is that it will look like the H4 concept....yawn

 

IMO, it will then be acceptable to refer to it as: "her","she", or "car". GM needs to go big or go home! +offer a gas-powered option.
