I have a 2008 H3 Alpha with 150km on it.

Mechanic says ball joints have minor play and to consider replacing. Another mechanic says drive on it, don't worry now.

What does everyone think? What should I look for symptom-wise?

Only reason I'm a little worried is because on an old car of mine, the ball joints were starting to go and I left it and one cracked off while I was driving at a very low speed and the whole wheel cracked off.

 

These trucks have a pretty stout set of ball joints. If your alignment is holding, you may be OK going a bit further. It just depends on how much play, and how bad that one mechanic needs work?

We can't see that here, so really your call.

 

Alignment seems fine...truck doesn't pull at all either way. I was thinking of waiting another 8,000km before getting them changed (I have a warranty that re-ups after 8,000 more km and I'll be able to claim for ball joints).

I was told "minor play" and the mechanic showed me with the pry bar up and said its just starting kind of thing.

I just wanted to know what would be more the symptoms to watch for (besides alignment) that would show they are about to go...just don't want to end up with another situation where I end up with a cracked off wheel!
