I own an 05 H2 which I bought new. Other than the water pump going out, I've never had a problem. I change the oil religiously. But now I'm at 84,000 miles and don't want it to break down on me. So to you Hummer experts, what should I have my local mechanic replace? Plugs, wires, radiator flush, change trans fluid, etc.? Thanks

You are really way overdue for fluid changes....trans, cooling system, transfer case, both differentials and brake fluid. Alot of owners change fluids at around 35,000. I had my 2004 H2 done at 50,000 and I do notice an improvement in performance... especially trans shifting.

Wow, all of those fluids?!?! I guess I'll get a price from both the dealer and a local auto shop I trust. I know they've changed other H2's fluids as I saw one in there last year having it done.
I've never heard of changing the brake fluid though.

So I'm taking my H2 in Tuesday to the local shop for all of the fluid changes and changing the plugs. They have done this with other Hummers and they have a good reputation. I was given a price of about $800. The dealer quoted me $1200 for the 90,000 mile scheduled service.
But I've not heard of changing the brake fluid. Is this really needed? If so why? Thanks.

Because of moisture buildup in the fluid. Have a look here

http://www.aa1car.com/library/bfluid.htm

There is a test that the shop can run to check the amount of moisture in the fluid.

Got it. I'll get it done.

Another respondant said to change the transmission fluid but don't flush it because it will get metal filings into the gears. Do I need to tell them to NOT flush it, just change it like I do the oil?

If they flush the system make sure they drop the pan and change the screen. Tell them you don't want it half a$$ed. If they don't then more then likely you will have metal going through the whole system.
