Thank you for the reply as well as the advise!. It really amazes me how something so simple can get over engineered in a bad way.

I searched high and low for this retainer with no luck. Used visors (with the part included) run north of $200 each. So I took several hours with micrometers in hand, and some 3d design software, and made my own. I found the design flaw in the clip (lets face it, that whole assembly is a design flaw lol) and improved it where I could to prevent those stupid ears from braking off. My test piece fitted up perfect so I ran a batch off. All in I have about 10 hours in the solution. These are not your typical 3d parts, common PLA material would breakdown in the heat of a vehicle within a few weeks with the load of the visor pulling on it. This material is designed for this environment and has been used successfully within the engine compartment here in South Florida without issues. I will report back long term results.

So, after over two years of making and selling these I have a few things to report. Overall I had approximately 5 failures upon installation (I immediately shipped out replacements) on the first batch of 100 and did a slight redesign adding additional support to the tabs. Since then I have had 4 reported failures after well over 200. I also added pretesting the clips before shipment (basically I flex them with my thumbs, but it effectively identified a few defective clips). I have shipped these all over the world.

I would love to hear from anyone here that purchased them and still have them in place. Specifically, what's your climate like? Do you experience freezing weather or extreme heat? Have you had a failure after they were installed? If so, how long after and what type of environment are they in? Any off roaders that really push their vehicles using them?

Thanks to all of those that supported this endeavor,
Bill

Wow! Great work on those! Do you have them on eBay? If so, what is the link? Also, any luck on printing the "rocket" shaped retainer that locks onto the visor itself (picture noted above)?

They are on eBay here: https://www.ebay.com/itm/284804044170

I have not attempted the rocket shaped one. I know someone attempted it but it did not hold up. I would either need an original one to model, or the cad file from the person that tried to print it. I have access to some alternative materials that might work.

Question about installing these

I have a question about how these are installed. I have never even had access to an H2 to see how these go in. Are these installed above the headliner and “sandwiched “ between the headliner and visor assembly, then pushed into the roof? Or, are these installed onto the visor as a complete assembly, that pushed up through the headliner into the roof? I am trying to assist a customer.

Someone has finally reproduced the cream rocket-looking visor retainers: https://www.facebook.com/reel/726821726921238
