Wipers
Hi, I work in service for a hummer dealer and we had a snow storm in the western new york area yeasterday. We had around 20 calls about wipers stopping and it was due to the snow getting in the cowl area where the arms are attachedso get them areas cleaned out good before starting out in bad weather. If it does happen shut the truck down and clean out that area and they will start again ( there is a circuit breaker in the motor that will need to cool off beforer they start again). This is weak spot on these trucks (along with the wiper blades) so beware. The wiper blades we get are the Anco Contour which seem to work the best for winter driving.
I had so much snow build up in the cowl yesterday that the wiper arms wouldn't go down and it actually broke the wipers. I replaced my wipers with heated wiper blades that happen to be plastic, so when the arm went down it put pressure on the blades causing the plastic to snap. I just switched them back to the metal ones. When I got home I had to put the hose on in the garage to get all the snow out from under the cowl.
I'm glad someone else had this problem besides me. This happened to me 3 yrs ago too where I took it to my dealer and they almost tried to charge me for the fix. Now every time it happened again, I just poured hot water down the cowels.
BTW- the stock wipers aren't worth a dime in cold blizard conditions where the ice & snow builds up between the rubber blade & metel holes in the wiper itself. Get the low profile blades, I have had these for 2 winters now and have had no issues with them.

Incidentally, my blades stopped in the UP position during a heavy snow. They turned back on a few hours after I got home.
Thanks for the tip. There are several threads about the sh!tty H3 wipers. I changed mine at 20,000 miles with the curved low profile type from www.Thetirerack.com
Well here in Florida I don't have to worry about snow.
And as far as the wipers are concerned I have own my 3 for 19 months and have yet to turn the wipers on.
I don't know if they work or not.
RAIN-X is all I need.
