White smoke and phoenix travels
Hi,
I haven't been on this forum for a while. Mainly because it took a while to get my H1 up and running properly.
I do have a question about white smoke. When i start up the truck first thing in the morning, it has some white smoke. It only lasts until the H1 begins to idle or i give it some gas then it goes away. The rest of the day any restart is normal. Is that okay?
The weather is perfect now. Does anyone know of locations in Phoenix to do some good off roading? I have a dirt bike, so i've been through the superstitions and Saguaro lake area. I'm looking for something more bouldery. I'm looking to go this Saturday if anyone wants to go.
Thanks in advance.

Check to see if you have any codes?
What kind of work did you do?
Does this white smoke have a smell like oil, fuel or coolent?
sometimes white smoke can be from a bad glow plug, check them all.
If you did any fuel line work, you might want to check your injectors and bleed the air.
Hope this helps

For the longest time i couldn't go past 55mph up hill without the truck overheating. No matter what I did. I was told by the dealership i needed a new engine. They couldn't diagnose it, so they figured it was a #8 cylinder crack. No evidence to support it. No coolant in the oil, no coolant loss, no smoke at the time, ect.
I replaced the fan clutch and have never had a problem since.
That way pretty much it, but it took me months to get that diagnosed as sad as it is.
No particular smell, other then smoke. Can't say i smell oil or anything in particular

vdhillon2,
A group of active wheeling HUMMER owners that I know (mostly from Phoenix and Tucson) are planning a January trail run somewhere outside of Phoenix. I might be able to do something this weekend too. Send me a pm & let's see if we can make something happen.

Bigunit, PM sent
I did have some issues with starting originally, and had the starter replaced. That has been fixed. It really isnt a hesitancy more then just some white smoke when its a cold start. I'm gonna have the glow plugs looked at today. I may get a compression test done as well, as this 8th cylinder crack is looming over my head.

Yes. I took the truck to Diesel Doctors. He was confident it was the fuel injectors. I had him run a compression test while he was in there as well, to make sure i don't have any issues with the #8 cylinder. Needless to say that passed.
The truck has all new injectors now. I started it up first thing the next morning, same problem, white smoke. He took the truck back, so hopefully he will find what is going on.
