Default Where to buy a color matched grill?

I've replaced the chrome package with black on my '08 H3 and had the rims powdercoated black. So I'm all blacked-out ("murdered-out" as I've learned) except for the chrome grill.

In pursuit of picking-up a [stock chrome] grill and painting it myself, I've watched the classifieds here and on eBay for the last several weeks. However, they've been going for over $200 shipped. The latest one is $250 shipped as of now.

If I'm gonna pay that much, I might as well have it done by the pros, since I'm not that confident in my spray painting skills.

For example:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/07-08...spagenameZWDVW

I've found what I assume is a primed grill at gmpartsdirect.com for 249.12. Heck, I'd rather pay this for a brand-new primed grill to take to a body shop and have painted black, than to pick up a used chrome one and have prepped and painted.

Does anyone know of a place offering finished color matched grills?

As a last resort, if I remove my factory chrome grill and take it to a body shop to be painted, can I still drive my H3 with headlights and signals in place while the work is being done? (a few days) Or is the grill essential in maintaining headlight/signal light fit and placement?

I considered doing line-x or rhino lining the grill, but given the semi-gloss finish on my powdercoated wheels, I'd rather go with a gloss, color matched finish on the grill - to match.

Thanks in advance!

Thumbs up

Perfect! Thank you 3bo0odi, that's exactly what I'm looking for. And at their asking price of $319.73, a pretty good deal considering what I'd be paying for a chrome grill to have prepped and painted.

I'm considering it now. Will post photos and details once I get a black grill on!

Sound like you're leaving the H with them while they paint your grill? I wonder how many day's they'll need. I've shyed away from that route since my H is my only vehicle.

Does that mean it's not possible to drive without the grill installed? One thought was that I could remove my grill, send it to the body shop for a couple days, and still drive my H to and from work. I'm not sure if the grill is necessary to maintain headlight/signal light placement.

If I can do that, I probably will - I don't necessarily need to keep the chrome grill. Just looking for the most economical solution to get a nice professional glossy black grill.

You can't powdercoat plastic it has to bake so it would melt the grille. Secondly to get the paint to stick to the part they have to get a positive electrical charge on the part so the negatively charged paint will stick to it and plastic doesn't exactly conduct electricity.

Here is another link for a black grille. I believe this one is a little over $300 with shipping.
