When to replace shocks/struts?
ok just wondering if someone know when you should replace your shocks/struts?
Is there a time frame? like every five years
or is it just about how your H3 rides?
If its about how it rides what would be the early sings that they are going bad?
Finally to anyone who has changed them out what did you get and how do you like them compared to the OE shocks/struts?
Also did you have the adventure package or the base model?
I have a 2006 H3 with the Adventure package.

You don't have struts in the front just shocks. Bilstein 5100 Series Shocks is what pretty much everyone goes with and you change them out when the ride feel more bouncy or if it takes longer for the shocks to return to normal ride height after hitting a pot hole.

I agree and disagree, I replaced mine at 65,000 and the ride seemed smoother. I put OEM shocks back on it and I did turn the torcian bars to level it out. The rears are very easy to change: I didn't need to jack up the rear end, I crawled underneath and loosened the bolts and they just came out, the fronts however: needed to jack up and take off the tire. I noticed a difference on my 2006, but then who am I to say!!!!
When ya bouncing like a pogo stick its time lol, or if ya got yaself a spare hour just pop em out quick and give em a push down, the shock should be stiff but smooth to push down with no notchyness (is that even a word) and return back up slow and smooth.
2006 H3 +90K. This is my first HUMMER. Cool truck. Like it a lot. Not sure what the ride should be but I do know that the shocks and struts are original equipment. The ride it not smooth but rather rough. I feel everything on the road. So, will I feel a big difference with new shocks and struts. Thoughts???
I don't own an H3, but if they ride anywhere near an H2, then the shocks are bad, imo. You shouldn't be feeling the road. As for struts, I don't know, I've never done it. The strut will take more brunt since the shock isn't, right? It probably wouldn't hurt to replace both. Maybe someone can clarify who has done both. In the mean time, I came across this general diagram for when to remove the struts. Seems like the same idea applies to shocks as well (assuming they are oil filled).

Since the question has been bumped, I might as well ask, does anyone here run anything besides OEM/Rancho/Bilstein? After having 6 of 8 bilstein shocks go between two vehicles, the brand is dead to me. Curious if anyone is running higher end shocks like Fox/Icon/King.

Yeah, 90k and 8 years you need new shocks. I like the OEM shocks and ProComp ES9000s for Nice road ride and they do very well Off Road also.
PS H3/H3Ts have shocks not struts. Take a loo under your truck.
