What are these, and where can I buy new ones?
My suspension and steering has been making a terrible sound. The mechanic told me these two parts are bad, lower is making all the noise and the upper is cracked through. He then gave me the $600 estimate.... I figured with the help of the internet I could do this myself, and save some $$.
So, what are they? and is that all I need to purchase?

after some research, and please someone let me know if I'm wrong, but is this the lower one making the noise?
the biggest aspect of doing them yourself is that they are press fit into the control arm. to install you'll need a toll to press the old ones out and the new ones in. you'll also need basic socket and wrench set, a pickle fork and a BFH, impact gun, and a grease gun.
upper ball joint is part of the control arm, just unbolt and replace. Drivers side and passenger side are different:
2006 2010 Hummer H3 Front Upper Control Arm Ball Joint Passenger Side Right New | eBay
2006 2010 Hummer H3 Front Upper Control Arm with Ball Joint Driver Side Left New | eBay
The lower ball joint is pressed into the control arm, requiring a press.

So is the $600 sounding pretty good yet?
Thanks for the input guys, I'm gonna get it professionally done. Got another shop in town to quote it at $585. Although both told me they can only get non-greasable gm ball joints. Is this true? Would what I found not work?
Is there a NAPA around?

The lower is serviceable, the upper is non serviceable, however you do not need to replace it just because the boot is cracked! Worn? Loose? Dry? Noisy? That's a reason to replace the joint, which you posted it is from the lower. Have them replace the lower and use a part from NAPA. GL
