Old homes always have a uniqueness to them. Most new homes are tract homes and 30 people in the subdivision have the same house you do and chose from the same list of options you did so your house isn't much different than anyone elses. When I did custom homes it even ran like that. Everybody got the stainless steel Sub Zero freezers and used the same granite and carpets. A lot of people even wanted the same brick. I made my money doing what they wanted but it was hard to believe that all those people wanted what everyone else had.

Exactly. When I first moved up here the house I rented was 150 years old and it had a "birthing room" in it. It had been since converted into a walk in closet, but still.... I always wondered how many babies were born in that room...kinda cool. My house now is about 90 years old. It still has the original woodwork throughout, and even the glass is the old glass with the imperfections in the glass. I love it. My village is really small and all the buildings are of the old style with all the great architecture and the original homes, which most are, all are built in the old victorian style... really nice!

It's a work in progress. It was empty for 12 years and needs completely repainted inside and out. I've gotten the dining room done so far, well, the paint part is done, but I'm not touching the floors or window casings until I'm completely done mudding, sanding and painting. It would be a useless project to do the floors then keep getting dust on them.... the floors aren't even buckled, they do need refinished and sealed, but it's minor. The bathroom still has the original ceramic pedestal sink and old tub... I love sinkin down into that after a long day... And I'm doing all the work myself so it is time consuming.

I love that stuff. I have redone a few houses myself. A ton of work but very satisfying.
