ORIGINAL: 3hummers

Midland Micro Mobile portable CB (model 75-822 ). You can plug in just the handset or disconnect it and add the battery pack bottom to it for a remote handheld. Also have a Cobra Roadtrip handheld that works pretty well for a radio that costs less than $100.00. The 8800 was about $130.00 more than the 7800. Did you get MARCAP with yours?
No, I didn't. I bought it for $224 including s/h from gigaparts.com. It also included the remote head seperation kit for free. I'll have to look up the mod online. Hope it's not too difficult, as I can be a real butcher with a soldering iron! :-)

Back on topic... I guess CB versus FRS/GMRS walkies depends on what the person you want to talk to is using. You can't use a external antenna with the FRS walkies, and the antenna is everything when you want to maximize your range.

The little FRS radios are readily available and don't take a special installation to use. I love to monitor those freqs when I'm on a road trip. Some of their users can be quite entertaining to listen to!

I have a Cobra 148 NW ST... and if you know radios... you know how much the sidebands suck in this radio... Cobra really ****ed this radio up... now that I have had it for a couple years it's obvious when the only people that can hear me/clarify/etc are other ST users... but it looks real pretty at night....[:@]

so for the most part I use my Cobra HH45WXST

I mounted my Cobra Remote Head/Mic on a flexable mic mount fastened under the passenger seat. Required no drilling. Did the same on the driver seat for my cell phone.
