Default What am I doing ?

Last night I went out and valet my 2005 Hummer H2. When I returned the valet driver told me that the vehicle would not go out of the reverse gear. I call a Tow and a cab. The tow driver gets there and crawles under the hummer and zip ties a part and told me that something under the car had broke. ( I guess a cable or bracket) that allows the gears to shift. After he zip tied the part he was able to shift it out of reverse and into park and I was able to start the car. I know this is a temporary fix and I have not driven it since I got it home. Any Ideas on what Im replacing ?

they do pop off from time to time, theres a plastic end on the cable that comes off.

i just had it happen to our suburban a few weeks ago, climbed under and pressed it back on with a pliers. it is possible that yours is broke though.

They forced the key out while in reverse, this is a problem... Normaly the key can not be removed until it is in park. Try to put the key back in to get it in park, the key cylinder may have to be replaced to get all working right. There is also a release button on the side of the shifter below the console surface, remove the shifter and center console cover to get access to this. The problem is not under the truck or at the shifter, hope the valet will cover the repair.
