The broke the law, they didn't stop when police arrived and asked them to stop, they were arrested. Makes no difference that it was lemonade for $0.10 a cup, they were vending without a permit. Clearly they wanted to get arrested to try to prove a point, and they did. Get arrested that is.

 

X2, they looked for trouble and trouble found them. The police asked them to stop "selling" the lemonade and that they could give it away. But they refused like the little spoiled entitled brats their parents taught them to be and got what they really came for: to be ARRESTED! Bet ya 5 to 1 they are libs!

So you are trying to compare some Lib college kids trying to get their video on youtube to "the whole mess in 1939"? That is some real paranoid sh/t there! Why don't you just start in on the violence in video games and rap music while you are on your soap box.

Where is the 12 year old little girl in this video? Every one looks at least 16 to 20 to me. My 12 year daughter or son wouldn't be hanging out in front of the capital building or where ever creating a disturbance nor would she/he have tattoos all over her/his arms and would always respect an officer of the law.

I agree as long as they are in there own yard and NOT trespassing. But I won't by lemonade from any kid that looks older than 10-12. There are plenty of other ways to make a little $ past that age.

I want to see the lemonade stand next to a crack house, Or girl scout cookies being sold next to a meth lab! That right there would be some great parenting.

You really need to put down whatever is making you see these hallucinations and think Hmmmmm...... why are these liberal azzz teenagers with matching shirts (cost them $), and store bought lemonade (cost more $), taking their car (gas $) and parking in front of the Capital Building (more $) and selling lemonade for $0.10? ATTENTION. Then ignoring the police officers repeated attempts at calmly asking them to stop selling their wears without a permit in front of the Capital Building. Then taking it to the extreem of being arrested instead of just packing up and going home? Hmmmm..... THEY WANTED THE ATTENTION AND GOT THE ATTENTION THEY WANTED. THEY PUT THE VIDEO UP AN HAVE 60+ YEAR OLDS WHO CAN'T SEE WITHOUT THEIR GLASSES DEFENDING THEIR RIGHT TO SELL LEMONADE! It's against the GD law. Any 1/2 decent parent would not fault these officers and punish these teenage children. But these kids parents let their kids run ammuck without having them earn their way thru life until it's too late after their liberal azz college graduation. Then they can't find a job because they have no "real" skills and can't sit still for more than 10 minutes without a video game or drugs (ritalin, prozac, pot, etc)......... I feel sorry for the good young kids who have lemonade stands, paper routes, mow lawns, etc that have work ethic that can't afford to go to college, trade schools, etc and have to be in school with these type of kids. Work hard, Play harder, Obey the Police, Adults and your Parents that's what I was taught by words, actions and examples from my parents and role models.

If you still feel as strongly as you say you do, contact your local govenment officials and tell them what you think.

what you guys missed or are ignoring is that around the country kids under 10 are being threatened with $500 fines for doing what kids have done for 100 years. they play businessman and sell stuff and probably loose money but have fun. gotta stop that!.

the protesters in dc are carrying the message to the feds, that there are too many stupid,business killing regulations,AND there are bigger fish to fry,and more important ones drugs,that i mentioned.
i spent a few hours reading blogs,comments and you guys are outnumbered about 95 to 1 so keep it up, you're showing your level of understanding and intelligence.

"we serve and protect" its the beginning of open brutality, a little down the road.

meantime a list of crack house addresses in any town is not hard to get,IF the cops really wanted to "crack"down on real criminals. how many drug busts do you hear about daily??

 

The article isn't about 10 year old kids around the country, it's about college age kids at the capital effectively daring the police to enforce the law. Surely you can see the difference. This is what I/we are commenting on here. To be honest, it looked to me like the police were very patient and did all they could to avoid arrresting them. We only get to see the edited version that "their side" released. Even so, I have to side with the police on this one - they are tasked with enforcing a law and once they approached the stand there were only two possible outcomes. Either stop selling or get arrested, it was the vendors option which way to go.
Being outnumbered has nothing to do with who's right or wrong. Oddly enough, it's comments from others that show their lack of understanding or intelligence. I know what they were trying to do, get arrested on camera to drum up attention for their cause.

Same argument can be used for giving out speeding tickets, and every other minor crime. Trouble is, there are only so many police and they are not all assigned to drug enforcement or solving violent crimes. Some are highway patrol, others are assigned to make sure no illegal activities are happening at the capitol (which includes vending without a license). It doesn't excuse the police from cracking down on "real" crimes, but you can't expect police to ignore every misdemeanor because a felony is taking place elsewhere. Especially if you are trying to attract attention at the capital. Police don't get to pick and choose which laws to enforce (well, I'm sure they ignore them sometimes and are wrong other times), and we don't get to use "it's a stupid law" as a get out of jail free card.

As for the point they are trying to make, now THAT I agree with. Too many BS laws. I'm sure the whole vending requires a permit/license has some valid reasons - public health and safety type stuff, but on the whole I find it unnecessary. I'm a Libertarian - I'm all for less gov't involvement in just about everything. Since it's been mentioned a couple times, want to take a HUGE bite out of drug crime? Legalize pot (and possibly other drugs) - I have no interest in ever smoking it, but I honestly can't think of a single legit reason why it should be illegal while tobacco and alcohol are ok.

 

it will never make sense or promote respect for law enforcement to force a 7 yr old "out of business" or to handcuff and haul small kids away in a police van, thats police state tactics.
LEGALIZE LEMONADE BEFORE POT!!

 

Somehow I think we are on the same side here, but discussing different aspects of the whole thing. I'm all about freedom and keeping the gov't/police out of peoples business unless there is an actual victim. There should be nothing wrong with a kid and a lemonade stand in front of their house - it would be nice for an officer to buy a cup from them and move on. Better to promote goodwill. Pot should also be legal and treated just like alcohol. I don't smoke pot, do any drugs, nor do I have any interest in such even it it were legal. Just a philosophical ideal, people should be free to do whatever they want as long as they don't hurt others. Gov't/police should protect us from each other, but not from ourselves. If someone wants to throw their life away on drugs, the gov't shouldn't be responsible to stop them nor should it be responsible to support them with hand-outs. Prohibition of alcohol in the 20's didn't work so well, and prohibition of drugs isn't either. Only difference, people realized it and repealed alcohol prohibition in the 30's. Getting a bit off topic here, but the point is a lot of these stupid laws like no selling lemonade without a license turn non-issues into crimes.
