Well, as far as keeping the grass green... I don't cut my grass shorter than 1 1/2 inches. If it's too short, the sun can reach the ground and really evaporate any water that's there alot easier. I also don't water during the hot part of the day as it evaporates before the grass can get a chance to absorb it. I water early in the morning, then again in the evening. The sun is not out and the water has a chance to actually absorb into the ground and the grass does much better that way. That's what I do and it works great. I grew up in the south where the summers are scorching and my Dad always did the lawn that way and we always had a nice lawn no matter how hot and scorching it was..

Thanks. It looks like I'll be picking up some of that fertilizer this weekend. How much doesit cost? I have a spreader but I didn't know any of this stuff. My lawn is slowly coming back to life. So the Scott fertilizer is good for my issues? Can I buy that at any Home Depot or Menards?

AND, do you put it on during the day when the lawn is DRY, or put it on when it's WET? Is it safe for animals, because our dogs are in the yard ALL the time and they like to eat anything and everything they find.

Depend on what size bag you buy $30 but make sure you water it
because it will burn the grass

oneother thing if you know it going to rain out for a day or two that be the best time to apply it except the scotts plus two it need to sit on the grass for 24hr to kill the weeds.

There are directions on the bag Mike, just follow those :-) Cost will be dependent on the size of your lawn. I have to get the 15,000 sq foot bag and it runs about 43-45 bucks if I'm not completely mistaken. I use it all when I do mine. As far as the dog goes, you will have to see what the directions on the bag have to say about it, I don't remember on top of my head!

So put it down Before or After I water? 15,000 sq ft seems like alot. Damn $40 for fertilizer? DOH!

Yeah, and I do mine 3 times a year, spring, summer, and the winter prep stuff .. sucks but it has to be done! It will tell you on the bag if it requires the grass to be wet before application. I don't think it has to be but I honestly don't remember what the "summer bag" needs. I know the spring stuff I just used required the grass to be wet but I know they are not all the same!
