Wanting to buy an H2, need advice.
I'm taking in all this info people, thank you for taking time to reply
. Good points big and small. I'm gonna go check out an 06 today. Black on black. I realized I just can't afford anything above 08. Once I saw the prices
I thought No way right now. Despite the 6.2 engine and interior.
Any opinions about the plastic used inside ? I've read it's cheap feeling but does it rattle ?
Also is the frame, engine and tranny in h2s really the same as a Chevy suburban ? Is that a bad thing ?
Man I love the look of this car I'm looking for something animalistic looking and this car is it!!

Frame is not the same, designed for the H2 only. Engine is the same (assuming 6.0 in the 'burb). The H2 has the 4L65 tranny and I believe the same for the 6.0 'burb with the 4l60 in the 5.3 suburbans.
Engine, tranny and much of the interior are essentially the same. This leads to the very common yet completely incorrect belief that an H2 is a Tahoe with a body kit or a shortened 2500 Suburban with squared body panels.
Yes, the plastic interior bits are a bit cheap looking/feeling in areas. Mine doesn't rattle, but it sounds like some squeeks and rattles are common on the pre-'08 models. Another way to look at it is the pre-'08 are more utilitarian in appearance, designed for offroad and practicality with boobie vents front and center and a big manly shift lever.

Rattler? .. YES rattler is part of the Hummer.. have you hear Hummer "rattler" like Nothing Else
Na just kidding ... mine does but mostly cause the stupid people which installed the alarm mess with all the clips and screws leaving everything pretty much loose .
Ive been fixing a few things and almost get rid of the rattler to the acceptable point .
On the good hand .. like you I couldn't afford a 08 so 06 was the best option .
I like the interior much better on the oldest models than 08-09 however if you compare apples to apples the 08-09 wins hands down in quality
Anyway . Im just trying to said .. Get it . You will not be disappointed with any year

One thing that will cost $$$. Is interior parts or anything "hummer" specific. Check the door panels around the handles for cracks and the map pockets. The doors close nicer than any other vehicle and take very little effort to close. That being said you will have to warn virtually every person that gets in. Not to slam the door. This is how the panels crack. Very hard to find.
Also check the rear license plate tray and see if it has pulled out of the rear gate. Very common. I hold mine all the way down to prevent it from slamming. There are plastic studs that hold it in and snap off. These are also $$$. Especially with where our dollar is at.
You're timing isn't the greatest for purchasing an h2 or any full size truck. Due to the dollar and gas prices the US is buying up all our clean trucks. I've had a bunch of friends trying to buy used trucks and there isn't much out there. I have an 03 and it has went up in value 5-7k in the last year. I've even had dealers approach me trying to buy it.
Good luck. When you find one you will love it. The only catch is. What do you drive after owning an h2?
A duramax h2...

That's a more valid question that it seems like on the surface. There is the occasional thread about it, some pondering and such... My answer is always maybe this or maybe that, but mostly I'm waiting for someone to come out with something that really catches my eye.
It is what GM should have built. If they had, they would still be producing hummers. A Duramax h2 is. Swapping a diesel Duramax and Allison transmission into the H2. Really makes the h2 the ultimate vehicle. With close to 500 hp and 900 ft lbs of torque. Great mileage and you could pull a house down with it.
I've been researching it for a while. It's not something i could afford to pay someone to do. Really been hoping someone would do the build and post it up just to gauge the depth of the task.
