V8 replacing I5

V8 replacing I5
Here in Australia we never got the Alpha. Although my dealer happily accepted my deposit for one 18 months ago...
Anyway, I have a I5 in my H3 Lux and wonder if anyone has every attempted to replace the I5 with the V8?
Does the 5.3L (I think this is the capacity), just slot straight in with minimal fuss (wiring loom, computer) Does it bolt up to the I5 Trannie and are the ratios all the same etc..
Is this a possibility with a reasonable budget? - If so, any idea as to costs in USA for the motor??
We have a reasonable exchange rate currently and it may make it feasible
So many questions, but we will never see V8 H3's in Aus (or anywhere else for that matter)....

If you have the money, something like this 6.0 liter conversion would be cool.....for around $18,000 http://www.mashmotorsinc.com/H3Conversions.html

The best documented process for this is as follows:
Take the money you were going to use for the swap.
List your I5 Hummer for sale. When it does sell, use the swap budget money to pay off whatever may still be left on the note. If you sold it for more than you owe, take the profit and add it to the swap budget.
Take that money and use it for a downpayment on your new H3 Alpha.
This is honestly the easiest and least expensive path to having your V8 powered H3.
Edit:
Totally glossed over the fact they didn't bring the Alpha to Australia. That is the pits. Best of luck in figuring out how to accomplish what you are looking to do. Just realize that to put the V8 in there, they upgraded a bunch of small parts, too, like thicker front axles and a cast iron front differential housing. The stock bits may work for awhile, but if you want longevity, you may want to consider those kinds of things in your budget.
Edit #2:
Don't forget that several of the cars in the Holden line are using GM V8 motors that would work. You will need the oil pan from the Alpha to clear the crossmember. This has been performed way more often in the Colorado/Canyon chassis than the H3. You might want to do some searches for V8 swaps and those models.
