Using Search vs. A New Thread
I am new to HummerForums.com, but not new to using forums in general. I have owned other types of vehicles, and have been a VERY active participant on many other automotive forums since the mid 90s. The one issuethat is common to ALL of these forums is dealing with people that post new threads asking questions that have been asked/answered several times previously on the forum. A simple search usually brings up a lot of info. Personally, I prefer to "search and read"! But if I can't find exactly what I need, then I'll ask the question!
I tend to be MUCH MORE tolerant than most folks, of new / newer members that ask questions that can be easily found doing a search. I never understand why some members feel it is their calling in lifeto reply with an angry response that basically reads "Use Search Stupid!"
The way that I look at it is, the more information out there to search for the better. If I have to search and read thesame thing several times, then it helps to confirm a point! I also find that newer threads tend to provide more up-to-date information (newer products, better instructions, etc.).
So I say....CHILL OUT.... and answer the newbies question or gently direct him/her in the right direction by providing links, etc.
Discussion?? Or flame away!! I can take it!!
Edit: I need to proofread before posting!! [sm=headbang.gif]

I usually am pretty tolerant also but sometimes when people come on and start the same thread several times in a matter of days it just shows that they did not even attempt to use the search function. I never really got into the Corvette forums even though I have owned at least one Corvette since 1977. I went through my NCRS phase and those guys wore me out and took some of the fun out of the deal for me. The Hummer groups seem to be pretty easy to get along with so I wouldn't expect too many issues.
i tend to agree with you, somewhat. but when there's a new thread asking if 33" tires will fit on an H3, it tends to be a bit much. there are tons of threads like that already. i don't see much flaming on repeat questions, more like a lot of ignoring. maybe i'll put up the little [sm=icon_rtfm.gif]guy for basic stuff, but overall i think this group is relatively tolerant of the same question over and over again - as most now ignore them . . . . . I only usually say something smartass if somebody posts a new threadwhenone with the almost exact same title is on the same page...
like that recent MPG thread...[:@]
and if it is in the wrong forum I usually just move it and not say anything... you may have been visiting forums since the 90's.... but I have been moderating/admining/owning forums since the 90's...

I think that the majority will either ignore the thread or offer a friendly reply! It is the open hostile responses that I could never understand!
