there is more offered for the H2 on fuel savings on upgrades, plus you really can't go offroading in an cadillac or a tahoe

You could do a biodiesel conversion kit as well for 30,000.00
Using the math in the above post it will pay for itself in under 10 years.

I too am new to this forum, I am considering jumping from a 00 Disco 2 to an '05 H2 with 68k on it, anyone have anyother comments or concerns? I have driven the 04 Range Rover as well, and for the $$ I am really digging this H2. So, if any of you can give me insight as to maintenance cost, ie: DIY vs Stealer, or anything I need to have looked over before I sign, I would be greatly indebted to you.

Default H-2

Hello.
I bought a used 03 H-2 and it get's about the same gas milage as any 3/4 ton pick up. With that said, yes it burns more fuel than my old 98 Nisan Frontier. Of course my Frontier was a 4 cylnder two wheel drive standard. It could not pull my tent trailer or drive through the mud or snow well. My H-2 I have to look to know if my trailer is on since I can not feel it at all. As for snow and mud the H-2 cruises through them efortly. So if milage is the deciding factor you may as well just buy a mini van since it would be more fuel eficient and would easly haul the family.

Before I bought my H2, I did the math just for fun. It didn't affect my decision to buy an H2, I was curious because there are those (who never owned one) who try to talk you out of it. Foolish mortals...... I wanted one anyway for other reasons.

I drive 8,000 miles a year but calculated on 10,000 miles for simplicity. 10,000 miles on the Yukon at 15 mpg at $2.60/gal is $1,734 per year. 10,000 miles on the H2 at 13 mpg at $2.60/gal is $2,000 per year. Let's see, $22.00 a month more to drive an H2.... no brainer. If gas went up to $3.50, it is still only $30.00 a month.
My neighbor has had an '03 H2 for 100,000 miles plus and averaged about 13 mpg. I had the Yukon for 6 years (55,000 miles) and averaged 14.8 mpg. The Yukon was 2 wheel drive.

I enjoy driving something different anyway.

Fred, thanks for the breakdown, a slight concern I have is during the summer months, here in socal the gas can be considerably more than $3.50...it's at $ 3.10 right now. I think last yr it got up to $5.15 premium, if my limited math skills are correct...32X$5.15= WTF was I thinking...hahahaha. Granted I will look great being broke...but this issue is no different than the one I am currently in with a '00 LR Discovery, 22 gallon tank vs 32 gallon tank. This also will have no bearing on my decision to purchase, just thought I might try my hand at a bit of humor.

No need to buy premium. An H2 runs just fine on regular and that's what the owners manual says to use.

i have a cadillac escalade and a 08 h2. The cadi is the car i would buy if i were you. much nicer ride, and if i was going 40 miles to work each day, i would get tired of that drive in the h2... the cadi, well, it is one of the best rides i have ever been in
