Security Scare Forces Plane To Land At Logan
(CBS4) BOSTON A United Airlines flight heading from London to Dulles International Airport in Virginia was diverted to Boston Wednesday morning.

State Police told CBS4's T.J. Winick the security scare involved a female passenger who was carrying a screwdriver, vaseline, water and a book referencing al Qaeda.

The Associated Press is also reporting the woman had matches. A federal security official told the A.P. there was no indication of terrorism.

The FBI confirms the woman was carrying a screwdriver and vaseline along with a note with Arabic writing. The FBI also said the female passenger had some type of panic attack and got into a confrontation with passengers and the flight crew.

A United spokesman says the pilot aboard Flight 923 declared an in-flight emergency after the altercation. United Airlines flight 923 touched down at Logan Airport around 10:15 a.m. It was escorted by two F-15 military jets based out of the Otis Air National Guard Base.

All the passengers have been removed from the plane. All luggage was removed and spread out on the runway. Police dogs are now sniffing each piece of luggage.

The suspicious passenger was taken into custody and is being questioned inside the airport.

George Naccara, federal security director for the Transportation Security Administration at Logan, is denying reports that the woman was carrying those items.

If she did have those items it's unclear how they made it on the plane. The flight had taken off from Heathrow Airport in London, where there's been tight security in place since last week's arrests in a plot to blow up trans-Atlantic flights.

The plane was carrying 182 passengers and 12 crew members.

 

Wow! That not good. I have my own opinion, as does everyone, about this and how these things should be handled, but I don't necessarily want to tick off any of the liberal tree hugger's that may frequent this sight.
