Can trouble codes be checked through the DIC? Can they be cleared without making a trip to the dealer? I use to have a 98 Vette and could always check and clear codes through the DIC.

 

Not on the Hummer. You can have them pulled at autozone and they can clear them for you, but legally they're not supposed to unless you buy a part to fix the problem. Any auto shop should have the necessary scanner to deal with your check engine light.

 

Another approach is to pick up a ScanGuage 2. In addition to allowing you to read & clear codes, it gives you a bunch of trip computer and guage functions that are lacking in the DIC.
