Default Trasnfer case encoder motor

Hello. I just had the transfer case replaced (ugh) but I am told the Encoder Module/motor is also bad, and the part can only be purchased through GM. Does anyone know if there are after market encoder motors and how they are to replace/install?

Hello,
First of all please tell us what vehicle you have, H2 - H3 ?

I just replaced my transfer case encoder motor and bought it from Rockauto.com at about 1/3 the dealer price.

It took me about 20 minutes to replace.

My apologies. It is a 2006 H3. It looked like was attached to the outside of the transfer case but I wasn't sure if there was more to it than that. There is no reprogramming required? Thank you for taking the time to reply!

4 bolts hold it on and an electrical connector to unplug.
Very easy to get to.

Rockauto looks like they only do rebuilds on this part for now.

Try looking online on any of the GM parts sites
gmpartshouse.com
gmpartsdirect.com
gmpartsonline.com
etc.
