I have a 2007 H3 base model with the 5 speed transmission and want to swap out my transfer case for the one that comes standard in the adventure package. Dealer told me I have the NR4 model that is AWD. Dealer also stated the only other transfer case available is the NR6 model that is not AWD. Is the NR6 the transfer case with the 4 low gear ratio of 4:1? And is this transfer case compatible with the base model without major modifications? Any feed back would be appreciated

 

afaik, all h3 transfer cases are he same xcept for gear ratio.

The Nr4 (BW4493) and Nr6 (BW4494) are completely interchangable as an entire unit. Totally "plug-n-play". Just unplug, drop one and install, plug in the other. Your "dealer" doesn't seem to know squat. There is an 06 H3 Nr6 in my buddies 2010 H3T and the 2010 H3T Nr4 is in his sons 06 H3.

Both the Nr4 (BW4493) and Nr6 (BW4494) have a 1:1 4HI and 4HI Lock ratio. The 4LO ratio for the Nr4 (BW4493) is still a respectable 2.64:1 ratio and the Nr6 (BW4494) has the turtle like 4.03:1 ratio.

Full time 4 wheel drive is the term GM and AMGeneral used. AWD is a different style system.

 

Thanks for the info. Do you know why the NR6 model is so much less expensive than the NR4 model? Since model years are interchangeable do you know what year they changed the shift from plastic to metal?
