To trade or not to trade...that is the question?????

I posted this in the H3 forum as well, but thought I would like feedback from the H2 crowd as well:

Ok, here it is:
I know of a 2005 H2 Lux with air suspension. It has 7000 original miles. Mint condition.
This person is willing to trade my H3 for his H2. Now I know my H3 Alpha is not going to hold it's value once the NADA comes out with their prices.
The H2 books for $40K.

I really like the H2...only it has the light interior--which isn't all that bad! Should

I take the trade and run away happy?

Any known problems with the 05' models? Also, the warranty is out for the bumper to bumper. It only had 3/36. Does it still have a powertrain warranty???? If it does, what does it come with???

TIA!

RE: To trade or not to trade...that is the question?????

I'll give you my .02 cents...

I traded my 06 H3 lux/adv (21k miles) for my 05 h2 sut with 40k miles. Even jumping back 1 model year and doubling the miles, I would do it again in a heartbeat!

I average about 10.5 mpg (mostly city driving) (I averaged about 13 in the h3) So gassing this sucker up is a little more...

The entire Truck/SUV market is falling to pieces and neither truck will be "worth" what they should be worth this summer...

What you have to think about is warranty, what you have now and what you will have if you trade.

Here is what the factory warranty is on this model year: (I bought a GMPP extended warranty at dealership. You might be able to buy one from your local dealership. They will probably require a vehicle inspection though.)

Bumper to Bumper- 36/36,000
Powertrain- 36/36,000
Corrosion Perforation- 72/100,000
Roadside Assistance- 36/36,000

Bottom line, I should have bought the H2 instead of my H3 then trading after a year. (Lost about $6K!!) So yes, I am very happy! :)

You will love how the H2 rides and drives.

RE: To trade or not to trade...that is the question?????

thanks jdrew...I checked with one hummer dealer.....they said the H2 would still have to be in warranty to add an extended one. This truck was first bought on 5/9/04 so that kills the warranty...That's the only thing that scares me!

The only warranty work done on the H2 was the ride control module for the air ride suspension. I guess it was an update.

Any other opinions??? Or anything I need to worry about on a 05 model?

RE: To trade or not to trade...that is the question?????

Solar I still think you should look around at any local dealers you may have and see if they have any 07s still on the lot. Some of the dealers do around here and they are offering 14K off of list and will do better to move one, if you are really interested in an H2. That way you would get full warranty, new car financing terms and0 miles.

I agree with 3hummers. Either way, you will LOVE the H2.. I'll bet money on it!

I have one Hummer dealer in this state and they don't have anything. A few other dealers have used H2's that have been run through the mill, besides they really don't understand what a Hummer is.....[:@]

I looked at an H2 and the dealer wouldn't give me a fare price for my 07 H3...which only has 11,000 miles on it...he wanted to give me way less then I paid for it.[:@]..Hopefully I will find the right dealer.

Good luck Solorflare..let us know how you make out...maybe the next time we meet..we will both be driving an H2.:D

RE: To trade or not to trade...that is the question?????

We didn't test drive a H3 last month when we went looking for a new rig so I have no clue in a side by side or trade. I can tell you we had no intentions of buying a H2, and only took one for a test drive just to see what's it's all about. After pulling off the lot for a test drive, the choice wasn't to buy an H2 or not, it was what color H2 to buy! (I wanted the yellow, and as you can below what color my wife wanted. lol)

I have never seen a H3 up close so I can't say about a trade. But after knowing what I know about the H2 (how it drives, rides, feels, and looks) We will ALWAYS own one. If you have drove the H2 you are thinking about trading for, and it just feels right.. Go for it!!

Decisions, decisions....can't go wrong. You like your H3 and I know you would like the H2 also. You should drive it to see what you think about it. Whatever you do you will love your ride and I think be happy with the decision. Not the worst dilemma to have.

I would do the swap. You can purchase an aftermarket extended warranty but do your homework on them because there are probably only a few good ones. You might want to check and see if the H2 fits in your garage. I had to adjust my garage door up to make mine fit. I love my H2 and cant see myself driving anything else.

RE: To trade or not to trade...that is the question?????

I have only owned an H2 for about a month, but I have really piled on some miles in that month ;). It's really quite a nice vehicle to sit in and just drive anywhere. One nice thing about an H2 is that it's easy to find in a parking lot since it's so large and there are not many of them. That's what I like about this vehicle is that there are not many of them on the road.I don't like to show off, but I do like having a fairly unique vehicle.

When I was out car shopping I came this close to buying a Jeep Rubicon -->|<--. It was nice, brand new, and the dealer looked like he would have bent himself into 5 pieces to sell it. After I said no, he seemed like a shark in the water smelling blood. I got calls at work, at home, you name it. Every day asking me to reconsider and buy the Jeep, but that totally turned me off to the whole Jeep buying experience. I almost jumped, but I held back and came across Hummers almost unexpectedly.

We also have2 differentplaces right near my home that specializes in custom Jeeps. I have to give them credit for making some really nice machines. They take a stock Jeep and customize it (lift kit, off road tires, etc). In the end thier prices are very enticing as well. In the end I may still end up owning a Jeep. Even knowing that, if I were handed the keys and said choose one, I would pick the H2 hands down. A comfortable 4 wheel drive (which seems almost like an oxymoron) plus every creature comfort in existance is really hard to pass up.

Traded my 07 H3 Adventure with 8000 miles for a 07 H2 SUT Luxury withabout the same mileageabout three months ago. I think I made a good trade. My personal opinion is the H2 is much a much better ride. Lots more room inside and lots more comfort features.Mileage isn't that much difference.

DO IT!

wow you made the jump, hope you have fun with that ride!

I test drove an 07 H2 and felt like the H3 Alpha had better handling and acceleration...it was a cool vehicle to drive, but that aspect plus the hard part of driving/parking one in a major metropolitan kept me with an H3

The H2 is no doubt a completely different animal and I much nicer. I would not even think twice.

My baby grew up!!!!!

yes the deal is done......don't get me wrong....I loved the Alpha, but after all the trouble I had with it and the dealership where I bought it, I thought it best to trade......The H2 is great!!!! The seats are so comfy for my back...that was one of the reason for the change.
I snapped a quick pic of the new one.....it was starting to rain....we were having thunderstorms up here....so needless to say my new baby is filthy already[:@] The pic doesn't do it justice.....I'll get some better ones by the end of the week!!!!

Muddy.....It's all your fault!!!!!

After receiving a ride in your Deuce, I just had to have one.....!!!:D:D:D:D and I even went for the light interior.....;)

Steve, I have to blame you to.......I got spoiled riding in the new H2!!! I didn't know what I was missing! Don't get me wrong.....I still like the H3...and they are much more agile on the trails....but I needed more room for my business, and a nice comfy seat!

BTW, what color do I have? and what do I do with my screen name now????? Everyone knows me as SolarFlare[&:]:)

No I didn't try the air ride yet...it is set....
I don't know really how to use it.....the 2 didn't come with a users manual.....but I found one on ebay and now I have to wait for it to arrive.....also I don't know how the fold the power mirrors in. I know if you put the mirror button in the middle, that the move button lights up, and shows power mirror symbol, but I don't know how to work it. I tried a few different things but nothing turned them in.....[&:]
Same with the air ride button....I think that is below the haul button, but I don't know how to use it...and didn't want to play with it......
and how about instant economy....I have avg economy but I thought these showed instant as well.......
any help would be great!

sorry... but it's a secret and you need to know the secret handshake [8D]

you know the square directional button? just press and hold right till they turn in

i dont't have air but i think if you press it you'll raise the rear and again to lower

as for economy? there no such thing in a hummer[8D]

there is no instant in a 05 or newer but what i do is i reset total gallons used and total mpg average - then you will see instant mpg but only for a short while because it then goes to the average

not the best explanation but i'm real tired hehe [&:]

If I remember right to fold the mirrors in you push down and hold the side of the power mirror button for a few seconds and it will fold in.

What happens when they don't fold in???? Is there a fuse I should check? I'm probably just doing something wrong. I'll have to wait for the owner's manual.....

the mirror motor could be burned out if you hold in the button and they don't move.... that is what happened to mine (regualr known issue with pre 06 mirrors). I now have the newer ones installed, better design and better look and no issues!

Possibly a problem but my guess is you aren't holding the button down right. I loved the folding mirrors option. Great to have on tight trails.

very true, nice to fold in on trails but somehow the pin strips still come on those trails...... You should hear the motor try to move the mirrors even if it is broken, hold it down longer...

3hummers 06-05-2008 07:51 AM

RE: To trade or not to trade...that is the question?????

Mine had a little delay before they would start folding in. I also had to hold the button down in just the right spot or nothing happened.

RE: To trade or not to trade...that is the question?????

The mirrors move just fine......I'll have to go out and check to see if I hear a motor engaging to move them....
