Default TPS Question

From the searches I have done, I know the TPS system has been discussed here at length to a somewhat sickening degree, so I apologize in advance, but I haven't found a clear answer so here goes. And I have searched through this forum considerably first before I posted this question.

I have a bone stock 2008 H3 LUX, 5 speed, black beauty. I am the original owner, and after two years and 5k miles, this is without a doubt the best truck I've ever owned. Except for some of the chrome bits (running boards, gas cap, etc.), the truck is bone stock. Lately, I've been thinking about acquiring some aftermarket parts to change the look around a bit. One thought I have is to acquire new wheels that are black in color (my stock ones are the cast aluminum type). Been thinking about giving the truck a "black out" type of look.

The truck has the TPS system. All four driving wheels have the metal valve stems/sensors. The spare DOES NOT, it has a regualr rubber valve stem. This is the way the truck came from the factory.

If I go with new wheels, I don't want to remove the valve stems/sensors from my stock wheels and move them to the new wheels - I like to keep all my stock parts stored and if I ever want to go back, I can do it easily.

So the question is, are the valve stems/TPS sensors "keyed" to my specific truck on some sort of frequency, or can I just pick up a set of new valve stems/sensors from flea bay and have them installed on the new wheels? And for that matter I think I'd pick up a fifth as well and have it installed on my OEM spare (not sure why the spare doesn't have one but while considering this I realize if I ever need to use the spare, the TPS warning would go off as a result of the spare having a regular valve stem.

If it is just a matter of buying a set and having them mounted to the new wheels, does anyone know the part number?

Any help or advice is appreciated.

Thanks,
Phil

Phil I am not 100% certain of the answer but I am about 90% that all the TPMS sensors use the same radio frequency so yes you could get them for any aftermarket wheels provided they have a suitable inner lip, you might have issues with "DUBS" and other unique styled rims. This all being said, I have 8 TPMS sensors at my disposal, I havent been running mine since I went to a large tire. Let me know if you thinking about picking some up after you get your wheels

When I bought new black rims for my H3X, I ordered them with the TPS installed. www.thetirerack.com.

Default Thanks.

Thanks for your responses.

These seem to be generic across the brand, so I'm pick a set up off eBay or whomever I pick up the wheels from.

Thanks again,
Phil

Phil,
As I recall the 4 sensors were $35 at the tire rack.

I think you will always have message on your display that the TPMS needs attention.
