Thumbs up TPMS MHZ compatability

Just got a 2007 H3 with 75k miles. The service TPMS comes on. I assume the sensor batteries may be dead. The "relearn process" is the same as my 2011 Camaro so no issue there. Question is for the compatability of signals. I understand stock is 433mhz or something to that affect. Aftermarket is 315mghz generally. I have two brand new sensors in the box from my wifes 2011 Chevy cruze she just traded in for the hummer. These sensors are 315mhz. Anyone have luck with the aftermarket 315mhz? Does it matter if I mix the OEM and aftermarket? Thanks!

My 2007 sensors work fine, the original spec is 10 year life. Before I would do anything, I would make sure all 4 tires on the ground have exactly 38PSI cold.

The H3 can only monitor 4 tires, but in 2007 the early H3s came with a sensor in the spare, being used you may not know somebody rotated that tire/wheel in and did not take its sensor out. They only broadcast when spinning, so if your spare was being monitored you will get your message.

If the message continues after 38PSI cold and confirmation that the 4 on the ground are the 4 being monitored, you may be correct on the batteries giving up.

Welcome to HF.

Thanks you! I had placed 36lbs in them even knowing the door jam sticker called for 30. 38psi is the sweet spot? I'll do that today and reprogram them.

38 keeps the lights off. When these things first came out, there were a zillion complaints at dealers, on forums etc..... about false alarms. We all figured out, 38PSI keeps them quiet, 30 - 35 is just too low, 36 -37 is iffy, 38 should do it.

Theoretically, you want them all the same, close as you can get them. They warn the driver when one tire gets like 5-10% off from the rest, so if all of them are a little different, the system gets confused so to speak.

Does the over inflation wear the tires funny? I fore see middle of the tire tread wear being an issue.

Inflation pressure depends on the tire and the load. I use the tried and true method of chalk lines on the tires to find the perfect pressure for daily driving. Loaded down for a wheeling trip I go up to 40psi.

With this method we have seen over 40,000 miles on Mickey Thompson MTZs. 3 different sets on 6 different rigs.

As far as the TPMS I always go with OEM. They seem to last longer than the aftermarket.
