Talking Towing

Hey everyone!

Just wanted to get everyones opinion on how their H2 towed. I rarely use mine for towing since I have a pickup but wanted to start towing with mine some. I have a couple fourwheelers and want to tow with it. My H2 rides tons better than my pickup.

Does it tow well? Power over mountains? All responses from this is greatly appreciated!

Thanks and have fun in the Hummers!

I use mine for towing a 19ft jet boat. Not a ton of weight (boat and trailer are at 2800 lbs) but it tows great.

I live in the midwest so no mountains, but on the highway I barely even know the trailer is there.

The only bad thing: I have my spare tire on the back of my H2 using the stock swing gate. I needed to get a hitch extender so I could swing the tire out and not hit the boat to open the back hatch.

Best of luck towing!!!

I have said many times, it does not have the pep under a heavy load that a HD Duramax equipped truck would have. However they do pull and handle well. I currently pull and also have had & pulled with several H2's. They IMO do well as long as you are not looking to accelerate hard & fast when towing, but then again it was never intended to do so.

I bought my 2 specifically because I was going to be towing a travel trailer and our H3 just couldn't pull it's own weight.
We've got a 6000 pound trailer and I have learned over this summer how to comfortably tow it. I first had to come to terms that I was towing a trailer and would therefore not be able to drive like I do without one. That took some time and a road trip or two. Once I got a grip on that, I am very comfortable pulling the trailer and have learned to sit back and enjoy the scenery when I hit the really tough inclines.
I've learned that in the mountains, and most of my towing, I put the shifter into 3 (out of OD) and use the tow/haul mode. It does really well on the flat sections, and I just don't dig into it for the hills and mountains. I keep it under 4000 RPM, preferably not over 3000 for any length of time. At 4000 RPM or more for any length of time and the rad and tranny will get hot--fast.
I towed the trailer out of Utah and into Canada this summer and the 2 did really much better than I thought it would.
I'd made an initial run into MOAB with a Programmer set for the trailer tune, but quickly learned that I didn't like the way it made the tranny shift plus it ran hot. I took the tune off for the drive home, but ran the Premium fuel in it, and it ran just like I wanted it to, nice power and no over heating.
A 2 is not the ideal truck to trailer with, but I wanted to stay in the HUMMER family and it suits me fine!
