I am considering towing a travel trailer with my H3. I know the factory rating is for a max of 4500 lbs and I am looking to stay at or under that number but wondered if anyone is or has towed about the same weight and what if any problems or issues did you have ?

I am not planning on going up into the Colorado high country !!

You won't have any problem towing that weight -- the reason why it's as low as it is, is because tow capacity also has to do with the vehicles ability to stop that weight.

I know some that tow over that because the truck will pull just fine, it's just not the safest setup.

...but can you guys post what all comes with the tow pkg on an H3? Is there a transmission cooler, oil cooler???... in addition to the rear hitch and power outlet??

 

No cooling systems...just the wiring, hitch, and different rear bumper to accommodate it.

 

I never noticed an oil cooler but a radiator/transmission cooler is standard. It also seems that there's a cooling loop in the power steering fluid circuit.

Especially with travel trailers and boats, don't forget to account for the weight of all the extra gear and people that you will be moving and stopping too.
