Hi, I'm new to the forum. I'm running 285/65 Trail Grapplers on 18'' XD Spys on my H3. The tires stick out a couple inches past the fenders. I'm in PA. Anyone have an opinion if this is illegal or any issues with cops? Thanks.

 

Call your local highway patrol station and ask. They get far more questions like this than you would think.

 

Thanks, I'll do that. That's a good idea. At the very least, I was thinking of attaching fender flares for a little more coverage.

 

Yep, here in PA if out sticks out past the wheelwell you be in vi-o-lation of the law. Depends on where you are if you get a ticket tho, its in the inspection code, google it. I had 33's that stuck out about 1" on my last vehicle and never had a problem, but every area is different.

 

I'm in Pittsburgh just north of the city mostly suburbs and in a retail area. The cops don't have a whole lot of action here. Yep, I think I'll get the flares.

 

Got any photos? I'd love to see your ride. I just ordered Dick Cepek DC-2 18" wheels and Nitto Trail Grappler 295-70's for our H3. I plan to post some photos once we get everything together.

 

Yeah, probably only have problems in Richland or Sewickley areas, everywhere else could probably care less, I've heard Mt. Lebanon police are tough but I never have any reason to go there anyway. Post some pics up, I'm searching for wheels right now myself and looking for ideas.

 

well you could always say: "officer it is not my tires that stick out but my fenders have grown smaller on due to the fact of acid rain"
or something like that

 

Yeah.....then he will let you off for the tires, and arrest you for drunk driving!

I don't get to the south hills much either. I'm mostly in Wexford and Ross twp. Trust me, these cops have nothing better to do other than harass skate boarders and teenage girls in their parents convertible not making a complete stop at a four way intersection.
