Tire wear w/ torsion adjustment
Hello guys, I am new to the forum.......first post.. My question is if I crank my factory torsion bars up to 24"......put the Bilstein shocks on, get an allignment, will I have to deal with the inside of my tires taking a beating with premature wear or will the new allignment take care of that. I always get my tires rotated regularly.......every 6000 miles, but I heard that cranking up the front TB will put a severe angle on my tires...??, wearing the inside bad.......
Thanks.........
Thanks.........
Welcome!! I've leveled both my trucks and never had a problem with premature wear on my tires. That's why you get an alignment. I will suggest that you wait a week or so, especially after installing shocks, to let your truck settle before getting an alignment tho...unless you have a lifetime alignment (highly suggested to get!!) That way if any adjustments need to be made on the height you won't have to get it aligned again. Also, I wouldn't go above 23.75"(measuring center of hub to fender lip). I had a strange vibration on both trucks at 24", once I lowered them it ceased, just my experience tho.
X2! Get a lifetime alignment (Firestone and others offer them) and wait about 3-5 days to let the t-bar crank "settle" before the alignment. I found a happy medium is between 23 1/4" and 23 1/2" from the center of hub to fender lip.
you can do all your adjustments and see if YOU need the bump stops. I have Trail Duty bump stops, but I have yet to install them. I'm just running the OEM's. The front does "nose dive" under heavy braking but that really doesn't bother me.
I cranked mine up to 23 1/4" and let it settle there for a few days, then got an alignment and it came back to me at 23 1/2". I didn't replace the shocks or bump stops and I am still satisfied with the ride. I probably will put some bilsteins on within the next year anyway since the stocks will probably be done soon.
Do the cognitos really improve the ride dramatically after leveling? Or is it always gonna be a stiffer ride since the springs are compressed from cranking the torsion bar? One last question...haha. do I need another alignment if I change shocks? Thanks for any input fellas.

have mine set at 23.75" on factory shocks yet with no problems, although i've heard them bottom out twice. the alignment dude said the factory spec for camber should be between +/- 0.5 degrees. after i did the torsion bar lift the camber was way off at around -2.75 degrees and they had no problem setting back to specs.
