Hey all,


Its that time of the year for me to shop for tires. I've been running the Mickey Thompson MTZ's for almost 3yrs and down to about 2/32's (mainly mix of city/highway driving) and love the look of my truck with them. I see that they have discontinued the original MTZ's and renamed them to MTZ P3's and increased the price on them; looks like the same exact tread pattern! I originally purchased mine from Pep Boys for 240.00/tire (running 305/70 16's) but they can no longer order them. What they can order in the same price range and he said they can order the Mickey Thompson Deegan 38's (mud tire) or the BFG KO2's (all-terrain tire). I'm leaning toward the Deegan 38's to maintain the more aggressive look that the truck currently has; is this tire pretty much the same as the MTZ as far as appearance, functionality, and treadwear (the MTZ did excellent in the snow for me)?

 

Anyone?

 

New tire, new R&D, new compound, new technology.... so its gonna cost more $.

Don't know anybody with the MT Deegans right now, so got nothing to add other than they do look cool?

 

 

Look at the Dock Cepek Extreme Country. Ran MTZs since 08.
Also made by Cooper Tire.
When they changed to the P3 we went with the Cepek EC.
10000 miles so far and love them in all weather just like the old MTZs.

They offer the 305/70R16 and have $100 rebate right now.

LostSoul - are the DCEC's any good in snow / ice?

 

I'm not sure as of yet. Typically here in Western Pa (Pittsburgh) we get slammed with snow storms this time of year but the past 5yrs have been very mild with light snow or freezing rain. We haven't got hit with any snow yet. The tread pattern is very similar to the MTZ's which did excellent in snow and ice; I'm confident that the DCEC's will do the same. My hope is that I get at least 2yrs out of these like the MTZ's.....


My next move is to eliminate my spare tire since they couldn't remove it to place one of my old MTZ's on as a spare (still have my old 265/70/16 spare on) which I have never used since purchasing the truck 5yrs ago; I'm guessing that the previous owner stripped the bolts and studs and left it that way. I had a 3-4 inch nail penetrate my old MTZ's and not puncture through the belts....the EC's should be the same.
