Di, bellsouth and yes I put the filters on the other lines. The dsl is up and running fine on my desktop PC which is in my upstairs office. I want to be wireless downstairs on my laptop. I installed some pinchy little USB wireless adaptor thing bellsouth said I'd need and I cannot get a wireless signal/connection on the laptop now..says no networks available.

OK, I am wireless! Called tech support again, got someone who spoke better English, was more knowledgeable, and a bit more patientand he had me fixed in 2 mins (such a simple fix it's embarrassing!) Thanks for listening to me and for making fun of me HAHA. I am no longer flustered and will now have that wine! [sm=alcoholic.gif]

Congratulations on the High Speed ! ! !

Not to sound like a mother hen, but.........

You did change your router password to something other than the factory default and set the router to not broadcast your system ID?

Here is why: Periodically, I'll scan my building just to see how many folks are running wireless. Occasionally, I run across someone
who is running wide open. Visible to everybody and their grandmother and with no security set. There was this one particular
System named after a Norse God. Being of that descent myself, it really caught my eye. The thing was wide open.

Well lo and behold, I'm down in the garage and hear this "Loki, Loki....Get over here".....A woman is yelling at her dog.
So I go up to the woman and ask her if she had a new wireless system. She looked at me like I was crazy.
I asked her if she named it after her dog. She looked at me like I was crazy. A mutual friend walked up and assured her
I wasn’t some sort of freak and told her how I knew about her system. She looked at both of us like we were crazy.

The dog pee'd and sat down in it.

Well, to make a long story short.....We went up and logged onto her router and saw, I sh^t you not, 6 people using her connection!

She went nuts.

Who knows what they were up to in addition to scarfing up free high speed.

She is secure now and paranoid as hell.

Just a word to the wise........
