Temp Gauge on dash fluctuating when hard acceleration
Afternoon all!
Here is an interesting twist.
07 H3 Base (minor mods)
Heat blows HOT!
Engine runs pretty good...
Stomp on the accelerator and the temp gauge drops about 2/16" down..After a few seconds it comes right back to center line on gauge.
It has been very COLD here in WI. the past few weeks...Were talking MINUS! Lol. Now temps outside have returned to normal (30deg.)
Fluids all checked to adequate levels.
I did quite a bit of Google search and found there was a TSB on the i5 at some point saying that this was a known common issue do to water pump suction.... Not sure about this...

2007 H3 Base 55K approx...
This started approx a month ago and is getting noticably more apparent with the days.
Issue:
Upon starting the H3 it will warm up to 1/2 mark on gauge and will remain there after the warm cycle unless:
a) Standing still you apply the accelerator firmly (say 3K rpm) and then the temp guage will fall 1/8-1/4 the way down the gauge
b) Driving the temp gauge will fall when accelerating to pass another car
I've already inspected the belt, tensioner pulley, rad cap, all surrounding area for site of leaking or dampness (None)(OK)
I've made certain all fluids are correct level and there is NO fluid contmination (based on visual inspection)
If the H3 is at 1/4 of the temp guage when 1st warming up in the morning and the pedal is depressed the guage does not drop.
The plug for the CTS (thermister) has been cleaned and replugged.
Please Help with this if possible.....

This is just a guess, but you live where the temp is very cold so upon acceleration or simply reving the motor to a constant rpm you are in turn sucking in more cold air. Also the acceleration is causeing your belt driven fan to spin faster causeing it to pull hard/or more air through the radiator. All of these would cause the motor to run cooler considering the brisk temps. Does the temp gauge stay consistently lower until you let off the accerator? Also upon further searching of numerous other threads it has been said that the temp gauges are just idiot lights. Without actually know what type of temp fluctuation is occuring it is hard to say what is truly happening. On a better note better it run cooler rather than hotter so I would stress too much since you say all fluids appear to be normal and everything clean. Other than that all I can say is its just a little electrical gremlin but doesn't seem too serious.
Keep it simple, just change the thermostat. Then report back.
What else but a gulp of cold water could change the temp,QUICKLY!
The fan, outside air will take a while.

Hello have had the chance to use Happy numerous hours and many miles with No problems whatsoever save for the temp gauge. You roast when you're inside and after the proper period of time for warm up can turn engine off and fan spins freely. So no problem with the clutch any other thoughts because I'm leaning more & more to just a simple idiot sensors.
