T.V. Tuner install
Well, football season has started (GO STEELERS) and it is time to uprgrade the DVD system in my H3 to include a T.V. Tuner. I am picking up a Power Acoustik TV tuner kit to install tomorrow. If everything goes according to plan, I will be able to watch dvds and tv at the same time (like that is necessary). This way I can run the Superbowl DVD and still watch the pregame while tailgating. I installed the monitors and DVD player myself. If anyone wants some tips, just ask. I have a total of 5 monitors in my H3. Total cost for the monitors, modulator, dvd player, and signal splitter/booster was a whopping total of $575.00. It is all top of the line Pyle Mobile video components. This includes a 14" monitor mounted to the back seats. The installation is very easy and can be accomplished by any shade tree mechaninc on a saturday afternoon. I will update with the performance of the TV tuner. Best part....I did not have to cut any factory wires and everything can be removed from the vehicle without anyone knowing it was ever there.
And I thought my laptop on my dash was cool.. You rock dude.
I'm eventually going to put an AV system in my H3. My question is, how do you ceiling mount a monitor in a H3, or any vehicle for that matter? Do you have to weld a bracket or something onto the roof, or are there crossmembers you can attach brackets to or drill into? How does that work?

Mike, the overhead monitors install using the roof cross braces, very easy to do. Some bigger overhead systems require removing the headliner and adding a piece of wood or sheet metal between the headliner and roof crossbrace, it's screwed into the cross brace then the headliner is installed over top of it and the overhead unit is screwed into the wood or sheet metal that you just sandwiched. This prevents any sagging of the headliner but like I said it's only needed for heavy overhead screens with built in dvd players.
I have installed custom audio video for show car clubs for many many years and have done hundreds of em, I would recommend you limit the use on your Pyle video componants. Not to knock your system but Pyle are a lower quality company like Jenson. Their screens always seem to get faded and loose sharpness after a few months of use. Problem with Pyle, Jenson, audiovox and others are that they use grade "C" lCD panels, which is why they are so cheap compared to alpine, pioneer, clarion and other top companies that use "A" grade panels.
Here is how my Pioneer rep. explained it to me...For visual sake imagine that every LCD panel comes in a big sheet, out of that they cut the panel sizes they need for their bigger tv's first then with whats left they sort it out for their smaller sceens. Problem is that there are only 1 out of every 5 lcs panels that get graded an "A" so the cut pieces are bought up fast by the bigger top of the line companies, the other companies are left to buy the "B"C"and "D" panels...D bieng the worst.
Sorry if I came across as knocking your stuff...I did not mean it that way at all...just don't want to see you use the screen for hours at a time then have to replace them after a few months. Good luck and lets see some pics!!!!
