Default Strange problem with 98 6.5 turbo..help!

I don't know what is going on with my truck.

I had a new engine put in it a year ago, ran it to Alaska and it ran fine, but then fuel problems. Sucking sounds when I remove the gas caps, etc. Put in a new filter, pump, seemed to fix it.

Then it would sputter up hills, and die. It always died up a hill. Dealer found the external filters by the tanks under the tire shields were plugged and replaced, threw in a new fuel pump.

Picked it up last week, ran fine and dandy. Took the kids to Seattle and ran the whole day with no problems. Up steep hills in Seattle, no problem.

Yesterday I hit the bank and I always turn off my truck at the window to be polite. I did my banking and turned it over and it would NOT start. I cranked and cranked and cranked and after 65 seconds it started to fire up but then died again. After 5 minutes of gassing it, cranking it, it started up and ran for 10 seconds then died. I then waiting a minute, started it up, no problems. Ran all day.

I wrote it off as a bug (after owning 3 hummers you get allot of bugs)and did not think of it.

Today I took it to the grocery store, and when I got in, it would not start. This time it would act like it wanted too, run for 2 seconds, then die. I cranked it so hard it was slowing down and I was draining the battery.

I thought damn. Something is wrong here. I wanted to call the wife but my kids dragged me to the video place which was in the same mall. So I spend maybe 10 minutes there.

I call my wife to pick me up and when she arrives, I told her "ya know, let me try just once". I did, and it started right up. It ran for 10 seconds then died. I turned it over again and it ran like a champ.

Please, solve the riddle.

It seems to do this if I just turn it off to run a quick errand, but if I leave it, it starts.

although I dont have any information for this one. I would suggest installing a Turbo Timer if you run a lot of quick errands. My dad is a diesel mechanic and we installed one in his Cummins and my H1 at the same time. You HAVE to let that turbo cool off. Good luck with the gremlin though!

I also have a 1998 6.5, but with 207K. I've noticed that diesel and the way it runscan vary, depending on where I buy it. Perhaps since it seems to run fine when you're away from home, you may be picking up contaminated fuel at a station close to home? The Stanadyne Performance Formula makes my truck run like a dream, so you might try that too. I havent had my truck more than a few months though and I'm pretty new to diesels.
