Hey all,

I've got a 2008 H3 with about 45k... I've been noticing something strange when I'm going from the park position to Drive. As soon as I put the truck in "Drive" from the parking position it makes a strange "computerish-style" sounding noise (sounds like something out of Star Wars haha)?? I put it back in Park, nothing... Back into Drive, the same sound...

Has anyone ever heard or experienced this before? And should I be worried, or am I just being paranoid?

 

mine does a sound too but it just the sound of changing the gear, doesn't sound like star wars at all lol. unless something else

 

It was usually just a loud whine from the passenger seat.

 

Yea Actually a loud whine is probably the noise I'm hearing.. It comes and goes, but I'm guessing I shouldn't be worried

 

you dont have the rsc whine!!! lol...but you may indeed have tranny trouble. id have any mechanic listen to it, seriously.

Sounds like the hyperdrive is not engaging, have Chewy take a look lol

 

So I was trying to duplicate the "star wars" noise you spoke of.

It has to be the brake master cylinder noise.
Try this, start your rig with you foot not on the brake pedal. Put your window down and hit the brake and hold it without putting it in gear. Is that the sound you hear? If so it's just the master cylinder making pressure.

 

I'm starting to wonder if it is repeatable just when going into drive if there might be a shuttle valve in the transmission that is clogged or going bad. I have no idea which one it would be, haven't thought it through that far yet.
