Default stock filter?

are the stock air filters oiled like K&N? I took my air box cover off to check on the condition of my filter and there was a small puddle of rust colored oil sitting on the bottom of the air box. It's definatley oil, smells like oil and has a consistancy of oil when rubbed between your fingers. I started to get concerned so I took my intake tube off and ran a white cloth through it a few times, no oil present at all so I don't think the oil is bieng blown out of the intake. Any ideas? The puddle was approx. the size of a half dollar coin.

I'm pretty sure that they arn't oiled filters, I think they were just plain paper filters? I'd like for somebody to confirm this, because last time I said something, I was wrong [:@]

Yup..They are paper filter...

Mike, if you filter is saturated with oil...this maybe half of your low milage problems...How it got there is another question.

thanks Dennis.

now does anybody know what size the opening is in the filter (where it connects to the intake tube)? I've got a few k&n cone filters around here, I'll throw one on if I have the right size.

I would suggest this: take out the air filter and clean out the housing really well. Go and purchase another paper filter from the dealer or parts store. K&N filters ARE oiled and depending on how much oil they have on them it can get sucked in through your intake and dirty the mas air flow sensor. When that happens, you will see a drop in gas mileage.

Did you buy the H3 used? Maybe someone had a oiled filter in it to where it caused a puddle in the airbox??

nope, got my h3 two hours after it was delivered to the dealer.

I've used K&N for years with no problems, if you know how to oil em they are the best. IMO
