Default Step Rattle

We have the factory chrome steps on our 06 H2. There is this rattle that the dealer finally heard this week. When ever we shut a door or hit a bump....plane as day.

They said it's the steps.....which does the squeek/rattle when we hit them. They said they can't do anything to replace or repair them due to not having end caps. Do you guys have end caps on your H2 Steps?? I don't know why since I would not having end caps on the tubes would allow moisture to escape.

Factory Hummer H2 steps to no come with end caps, both ends are open on each step. Does is make noise when you step on it? While jumping on the step? When opening the door all the way? It may be the cowl body in front of your drivers door, it may need to be re-aligned. Our 2008 H2 had this poping noise when you opened the drivers door, it was the cowl aliignment.

Default ?

The door makes a little bit of a pop when open...but it's nothing major.

If you actually take your fist and pound on the step, it makes the squeek/rattle. Which is why they think it's something in the tube. Has anyone else had their steps replaced under warranty??

It's anoying that every time you go over even a little bump in the road, we hear it. Sounds like something is loose or falling off, but we know there isn't.

Mine don't have end caps either. If you suspect there is something loose inside, why not unbolt it, stand it on end and see if anything rolls out.

The dealer alreay disasembled the steps and tried to figure that out. I'm just wondering if they should be covered under the warranty? They were on when purchased new. They tried telling me they wouldn't cover them because the end caps were missing.

My '05 doesn't have end caps, either.

If you have already gone through the process of removing the steps and shaking them, it may not be the steps. I'd try removing the steps and then drive it a bit to see if the noise still persists. You might be running down the wrong rabbit hole.

check the brake cable that runs under the drivers side... mine was loose and made a noise that drove me nuts... secured with tie-wrap and problem solved...
