Steering Shaft Question--Need Answer ASAP
I have a question...and need the answer asap. I know the revised part #25900714 and the TSB for the fix is #07-02-35-006B.
I had my dealership do the fix, but the repair order says: Replaced loose and noisy upper steering shaft. Part#:15167588 E770 Shaft, Steering Intermeddiate Replace.
I can't find any reference to that part number...and was wondering if it is different for the Alpha model???? I just called and spoke with the service rep and he said they pluck my VIN into the computer and whatever it comes back with they do......(sounds like a funny story to me). I then told him that I requested the part number listed above with the TSB.....and that's what I want it my 3. I still had a small clunk on the way home with their fix, so my suspicion is that they replaced it with the original part that is no good in the first place.
Does anyone have an answer for this??????

Bulletin 07-02-35-006, and been replaced by #07-02-35-006B and does NOT include 06 or 08Hummers. Not to imply that an intermediate steering shaft on any vehicle, including 08 Hummers can’t go bad, but this bulletin is only for 07 Hummers (and Colorado/Canyon) due to the new designed that was initiated on that platform in 07. The 08 was changed again.
"Subject: Clunk or Knock Noise Heard and/or Felt Through Steering Wheel or Brake and Accelerator Pedals (Replace Lower Steering (Intermediate) Shaft) #07-02-35-006B - (10/18/2007)
Models: 2007 Chevrolet Colorado, 2007 GMC Canyon, 2007 HUMMER H3 with 3.7L Inline 5 Cylinder Engine (VIN E -- RPO LLR)
This bulletin is being revised to provide important steps to follow when replacing the lower I-shaft. Refer to "Important" information found in the Correction Section of this bulletin. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 07-02-35-006A (Section 02 -- Steering).
Condition
Some customers may comment on a clunk or knock noise being heard or felt through the steering wheel and/or brake and accelerator pedals. This issue may be more prevalent in hotter temperatures.
Cause
This condition may be caused by a slip/stick condition in the lower steering (intermediate) shaft. "
Your 08 already has a redisigned different part in it. So, you are asking them to do solarflare red peppers (like my color above
) to a grape.
What the service guy told you is basically correct. They go by the TSBs (or lack thereof) for your vehicle. You do not need the old fix, but you may?? need something different. Drive it some miles in warm weather and see what it does. Good luck.

OK,
Thanks Doc!!!
Geez, if he had just explained it that way....it would make sense. I didn't realize that the 08' models were all redesigned again. Would this still hold true if my Alpha was built in August of 2007????
Just wondering if I have an issue because of the early build date.....is it possible that I got half 07 parts and half 08 parts?

Ok, well here is what has happened since:
Spoke with Hummer CC and got a really nice guy. He did some research for me. He said that the bulletin doesn't specifically apply to my vehicle, but there is one for the 08' Alpha that he did find, regarding the shaft for steering. He said he would call the dealer and speak with the service rep. I asked him for the tsb #, but he said he is not allowed to give out that info.
I will keep you all informed if something is done to my H3 that fixes the issue.....I know a few other Alpha owners had mentioned that they thought they also had the steering shaft problem.

Rich,
No, not related to HummerGuy....??? Why do you ask?
Nevermind.....LOL
That just flew right over my head. To early in the morning to be thinking straight at work..haha
I think I will just drive my 3. See what happens....I know I'm supposed to get called back tonight from Hummer CC. I'll see what he has to say. Besides the Hummer Dealership is having a HummerHappening on the 19th of this month. Whole catered dinner right at the dealership and they give away stuff to! The only bad part is that it's 2 hours one direction and on a Weds. night......but I might go to one just to check it out.......
