Default On star, bluetooth?...Navi...

I've read around and I am a bit confused on a couple of the standard features. First, does the "On Star" microphone that is in the rear view mirror also act as a Bluetooth microphone?

Also, does anyone have any updated information on a good navigation system to have installed? Just to make clear, I will not be installing this, rather I will have local shop do it. I looked at Crutchfield, but most of them said "modified fit" and I am not sure I want there to be alot of modification to make it fit.

Thanks for the help.

On my 08 H3, the microphone used by OnStar is actually in the roof liner directly above steering wheel. I have not been able to find any aftermarket system to utilize that mike with a bluetooth phone. Something like the "Parrot" brand hands-free systems will plug-and-play with the audio system and use the factory speakers, lower the volume when the phone rings, etc. but requires the addition of it's own microphone and of course the control unit somewhere in the cockpit area.

I was quite surprised that there was not an aftermarket alternative as this would be pretty straight-forward, and such items exist in numerous forms for Auxiliary In and iPod connections, etc.

As to Nav, I have not yet installed a unit in my H3 and may not as I have a Garmin portable unit that I use on my motorcycles and don't really need one. I will give credit here though to Kenwood for the system I had in my last car, which I understand is readily available for installation in the H3. It is the Kenwood DNX9140. This system utilizes a built-in Parrot for the bluetooth (both phone AND A2DP stereo) and hands-free, a built-in Garmin for the GPS, and then a Kenwood receiver. The system can also be installed with a highly-functional iPod connection, and XM satellite radio, and a back-up camera. The whole thing is driven from a very clean touch screen. Here's a link to the description from Kenwood.

The ONLY drawback is, as you might expect, the system is pricey by my standards. I ended up with a total invoice of $2,800 fully installed including the back-up camera, iPod integration and XM satellite radio. It was a very clean system, equal to or better in every way to any OEM options, at least for the car that I had.

My $.02 and worth what was paid!

I would definitely be interested if anyone encounters technology that allows the addition of bluetooth to the OEM installation.

Good luck!

Can a parrot 3200ls be wired into a 06 h2 (bose 2 ohm speakers) and work properly? I had it done and phone voice only comes through the driver door speaker. The driver door speaker is also the only one that auto mutes when making recieving calls. Needless to say that sucks. The installer told me that it is impossible to make the automute apply to all speakers with the bose system, however, very little research was required to learn that it seems there are multiple ways to accomplish a properly working bluetooth with the 2 ohm bose. One forum stated that the thing must be wired upstream of the amp rather than downstream, another forum led me to a website of a company that makes adapter harnesses specifically for particular makes and models of vehicles.(including 06 h2)...Does anyone have personal knowledge/experience?

Try searching "Bluestar" It uses the On Star mic for the bluetooth setup. You disconnect the On Star and plug in a bluetooth instead. Installed one on my 04 H2 works well
