it doesn't look that horrible....I have an old 1984 Honda 250 three wheeler that I just rebuilt last summer and my motor looked a lot like that. What I did was to buy a foaming engine cleaner and scrub the hell out of it with green then gray scotch brite pads. Green is more course than the gray so your basically steping up to a finer grit to clean up the swirls left by the green pad...it worked great. I'll take a pic tomorrow if it's not raining...I have to put it on ebay anyway.

yeah.... that looks like you could blast it with a pressure washer and take most of it off and then come back with some engine foamy brite... and some elbow grease... it will look great.

If you saok it long enough you could probably blast it off with your regular hose and a spray nozzle.

I think you have a lot to work with and have something that will look nice with minimal effort... unless the pics are deceiving.

Gunk Engine Brite (Degreaser- they have several varieties) and a mild pressure washing with warm water. You can use Simple Green but be careful cuz it does not like aluminum and can etch.

You still will have discoloration, but at least it would be clean. Then give it a spray with this CD-2 Engine Detailer.

wal mart, any auto parts store, k-mart, most convience stores have the engine degreasers. they have them in anything from aerosol to concentrate that you can use in a pressure washer.

Yeah.... some places are like that... looking at it again it's not too bad... you might be able to use a soft bristle brush to get some of that off also.
