If the 3M taped failed once, it'll fail again. If you want it on and not have to worry, LOCTITE it with #454, surface insensitive adhesive. It will bond to many dissimilar surfaces. You'll have to buy it from an industrial supplier, like Applied Industrial Tech.
Works great, don't get any on your fingers, but if you do, soap and warm water.
