Default Bumper Chrome Letter Insert Removal?

[8D]Probably the dumb question of the day, but here it goes.

I have the Chrome Insert Letters on my bumper and after a couple of years they have faded bad.My Hummer isn't garage kept so I guess the salt and sand from the winters finally toor them up.

First, is there a way to remove them without damaging the bumper?

Second, does anyone know of any that they would recommend that could withstand the elements?

Thanks for your help!

A heat gun or a hair dryer will do the trick. If you use a heat gun becareful because of the plastic bumper. Get it so you can use a screw driver to pry a corner of the letter up and then use your hands to pull the rest off...wearing gloves of course.

Yeah, A hair dryer and fishing line. Heat it up then slide the fishing line over the letter and peel it out!!
I used lighter fluid to take off the residue!!

I did it on mine as I first had STAINLESS letters, but I liked the BILLET look WAY BETTER!!!

Great. I will use this advice. Thanks. I appreciate it.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a seller of replacements letters that handle harsh weather conditions? I bought mine off of eBay.

Thanks,
pduffy

Hello,
You can try Plexy Glass. I had a couple of Hummer License plates custom made from this plastic material and it is holding up perfectly with absolutly no weathering.
The manufacturer is called MTM UNLIMITED. They use state of the art laser cutting. So all the lettering is exact to measurement. 3M adhesive may also be available. You can reach them at 1-561-389-5424. There web site www.mtmunlimited.com

Thanks again for all the help. I ended up finding some stainless letters to replace with. I will take your advice on how to take the letters off.

Thanks anyway Safari. I did check out the site you provided but I decided to go with what I know.

Sorry HummBob, I just noticed your question. I had billet but went with stainless this time hoping it will last a little longer.

I also use Meguilar's exterior trim on the bumpers which I am a big fan of. I am not sure if that may have had something to do with the tarnishing on the letters. I wasn't always the best at masking the letters from the spray.
