Default Squirrells under hood

Folks...I got a bad squeek coming from under the hood...I have tried belt dressing but it just seems to make the noise louder. Anyone have any suggestions?

Maybe it is not a belt. Maybe it is a bearing. Had one go on my AC compressor on my old Acura. It squeeled so loud I thought it was the end of the world.

anyone ever hear of the dish soap method of stopping squeaky belts? I may try it before I try anything else.

Dish washing soap, probably allow the belt to slip.

Like mentioned above, you could have a bad bearing in the idler pulley, or A/C, or if you have higher mileage, your water pump could be talking back.

Try tightening the belt a little.

Nope, but I've heard of using bar soap on 'em.. Crank motor, let the underside of the belt rub across a bar of soap.. Dont' get your fingers caught though..

All those are a temporary solution. If your belt is worn or damaged to the point it makes noise, its going to make noise as soon as whatever crap you put on it wears off. The best test is to use any type of lubricant (WD40, belt dressing, etc), spray the belt while its running (make sure you hit the belt because the fan will try to blow it onto the motor), if the noise goes away (even for a second) then replace your belt. If it doesn't you need to find out which bearing is bad

put dish soap on it...the noise went away at idle...came back at higher revs.
Seeing how I only have 11,000 miles on it, I will be taking her back to the dealer on monday.

I had a similar noise, took it to the dealer the next day and they replaced the idler pully, noise was still there. It ended up being a bad alternator pulley/bearing. They replaced the entire alternator and No More Noise! I hope this helps and Good luck!

Belt dressing, soap. You guys are not that old are ya?

That was for the old V belts that gripped by tightness pinching them into the groove in the pulleys, surpentines do not need anything.

There was a TSB on bad alternator pulley allignment for the Alphas, sounds like you got that problem to me, or squirrells, maybe both?

Git it fixed today...The service manager said it was just the belt. There is a new part number for the belt and he told me that they are making it out of a different compound. No more squeel is all I care about!!
