The key is light coats if you want more of a powder coat look. Otherwise you'll get that hammer finished.
The paint has great adheasion, but I still cleaned the wheel with degreaser and did a light sand. and a light sand between coats.

I did the front and back calipers a few months agoin the same red you did. Didn't do the wheels, I just bought black MotoMetal's.
Your's look great. That Hammered stuff is awesome paint...
