If you don't mind, I have a few questions to ask you.

What is the hp/torque output on your rig? From reading around, I can't seem to find a lot of info on how a rig like this accelerates/drives. Any clue what your 0-60 is? Any idea how much HP/ft-lb your LMM is putting out?

From what I've gathered:
  1. Predator: 465HP/1100ft-lb
  2. Mash Motors: 400HP/???ft-lb (900ish ft/lb?)
  3. Predator: 500HP/????ft-lb (1150ft-lb?)

There hits a point where you're just dumping money to effectively make the rig go from great acceleration to sports car acceleration. I was originally thinking of bumping whatever people normally do to a 600/1200 power plant, like what Duraburb did, but it just seems like overkill for normal driving. I just want to get on the interstate w/o everyone passing me.

How do you like having 2Hi, 4Hi & 4Lo lock compared to the awd & 4 Hi/Lo?
Did you experience the true AWD of an H2 before?

Everyone, other than Duraburb, only offers 2wd/4wd. I'm curious how that is in day to day driving. Duraburb was offering 2Hi, AutoTrac, 4Hi, 4Lo as an option, so if you need AWD in bad conditions (tons of rain like we get here, snow, etc), you have better control. From what I've read, AutoTrac is not like the stock 4Hi-AWD that we use. You cannot enable it 24/7. Well, you can, it'll just wear out quickly. I'm wondering if it's better to keep the power train simple 2wd/4wd only & just invest in the best tires for wet highway conditions.

Anything you'd have done different if you were funding the build?

@Synthetickiller

These probably won't be the enlightening answers you where hoping for but here goes...
My truck still has the stock Allison transmission so I have not done anything ridiculous with the programming. I have zero interest in replacing a good transmission. It has a ppe hot + 2 programmer I am running on it.
It has 7 power levels

-40 hp and 97 ft-lb
-90 and 160
-160 and 240
-225 and 335
-300 and 460
-350 and 530
-425 and 620

I called ppe and talked with one of the techs, he advised to not exceed level 3 with the stock trans. So I have put 90k on the the truck on level 3 or less.

I have never had the truck on a dyno so I can't tell you any real numbers. Sorry.
I can say that it's fast and has monster torque.

Also I saw your comments on mileage... yeah I have never seen 22 mpg. Best ever was 20 mpg, and that was because I was trying to see what I could get driving like my grandmother. I would say i average between 14-18 but that's city and hwy because it's a daily driver.

You asked what I would have done differently... I think I would had the trans built and not babied this as much as I have. Other than that I think it's rock solid.... but don't get me wrong the Allison is a great transmission.

Hope this was helpful in some way.

Interesting......

I saw a duramax h2 on Chicago Craigslist for a long time priced at 9,995.

My gas Matrix Time Machine H2 usually gets 13.5 (with air on) to the mile and just recently on a nice day it burped up 15 miles to the gallon.

The saving you think your getting in torque plus miles to gallon over a stock gas hog is costing you a lot of needles expenditures of extra cash. Than there's that marbles rolling around sound the diesel makes when running.

Some guys got a have it for chest pounding bragging rights. You know, like, my H2 duramax will rip the life out of your H2 gas hogs transmission in a contest.

Hey, I don't care about that. My H2 runs, gets exceptionable gas mileage and people tell me all the time its cool and its beautiful, they love it.

Me, I wouldn't want a duramax. Diesel prices verses regular gas prices upsets the tomato to potato compare rule

For financing something unusual like a Duramax converted H2 you might have to go with a specialty lender like JJ Best, Lightstream, Woodside, etc... They specialize in classics and after an evaluation and seeing conversion costs they might very well be ready to finance.

Wait, you didn't label the settings. I'm reading the top as 1, bottom as 7, so you only have 160hp and 240 ft-lb? Or is top 7 and setting 3 is 300/460? There's a huge difference. The way it reads, seems like the former (160/240).

You have an LMM, right? The stock trans is rated for 365 hp / 660 ft-lb. The 2008s were 397hp/415ft-lb, so what's the point of a diesel that basically matches that? I'd think 450hp/1000ish ft-lb would be a reason to have one. Mash or H-line did the conversion, right? They used a stock trans? I've never seen that done in a converted H2 before.

The 160hp and 240 ft-lb are in addition to stock. That is what ppe claims is added at level 3... so it would be 557hp and 655 ft-lb.

Lenny makes great points, this debate has gone of for years and years. Would it be hands down badass to have a Duramax H2? Without hesitation YES. Would I want a converted H2, probably not. More issues to deal with, cost of diesel is not worth it anymore compared to diesel being much cheaper than normal gas. That was the major reason I stuck with a gasser instead of the baby DMax in the new Canyons.

You can absolutely not say the mileage is the selling point when a conversion costs $30-40k. That's a ton of gas!

I don't see a whole lot of diesel conversions for sale around here and actually I have only seen one in person in AZ and body lift to fit the engine looked terrible. I'll stick with my stock 6.0 and consider a stroker or FI when she getting older. I only have 74k on my stock engine though so I don't anticipate any issues for quite some time.

One last comment before I leave the contest to the guys with deep pockets.

Insurance will only pay the below market value of a totaled H2. so you may not see all that investment back when you roll over your 50 grand prize.

I was following a lot of H-line video's on youtube and checked out the kit they were making and selling so you could do it your self or at least get a local garage to do the work. Anyone ever go through with that or know anyone who did ?

my 2 cents ... I love my H2 however I wouldn't spent that amount of $ In a mod .. Good mod yes . worth it? . I dont think so
I will better get a diesel 2500 Hd and keep the h2 as a toy

or as someone (cant remember who) did .
Got a junk diesel 2500 . made the swap and sold everything else to pay what he spent
