Those nerf bars bend at the slighest touch, during our Hummer Happenings we see those things getting bent up real easy. Now the dealer requires you to remove them before the event. My soultion was to buy Hummer's Rock Rails which offer tons of protection and than I added the steps that simply attach to the rails. It is four nuts that I have to take off (the bolts are welded to the step) for each step and I'm all set to go offroad.

Having had our H3 for three days now, I'm fighting the urge to break the bank on accessories. So far.... Husky mud flaps, all weather mats, and chrome accessories. I hope this urge to buy stuffdiminishes!
Anyway, don't side step rails seriously interfer with off-roading?
Also, does anyone know the cheapest source for the roof rack cross members?
Thanks again for your help.
Nope, the urge to spend your paycheck on your H-3 just keeps growing!!

The Rocky Road Sliders are awesome. If you have nerf bars I would remove them before off roading. It doesn't take long and will save you lots of money. The urge to accessorize nevers goes away. In fact as you drive around and see what other Hummer owners have done to their rigs the urge gets worse. On a forum like this you never have to leave your house to spend money. Just look at all the posted pics and next thing you know you have been on several websites ordering stuff you saw here. It can be a real sickness. LOL

The RR rails are a good start. Don't worry about the fourth bracket. You can jack it up right there with out problems. Add a strip of flat iron to protect your body seam.

I have Rocky Road sliders on my XJ, and they're tough. The only thing to watch out for is the paint. Keep a can of flat black around because it will rust on you sooner or later.

I might have to figure out a step solution soon, the wife complaints are diminishing, but still there (and it is her "primary" vehicle).
